Acutally there are four motors for the seat. The motor with the problem only controls back and forth motion. Every thing else works. The is no problem with the switch. The seat is out of the car and I can energize the motor directly. One side moves forward and the other moves back. Somehow one of the drive screws runs in the opposite direction of the other. Causing the seat to Bind. The motor is connected to the right side drive screw and drives the second screw (left side) through an drive cable similar to a speedometer cable.

Everything on this seal functions. The repair shop did remove the drive screw that is running backwards. It looks like it only installs one way unless I am missing something. The seat is out of the car.

  • b_tittle Aug 25, 2010

The motor runs both directions depending on how I put power to it. One side of the motor is connected just like all of the other motors. The second drive screw is connected to the back end of the motor thru a drive cable. The drive screw connected to the back of this motor turns backwards (Oppsite direction) so one track moves forward and one track moves back

Hi. It is possible because one of the screws has right hand threads and the other has left hand threads. That car wash company is obligated to make you whole again. Call them and tell them that you will be taking the lincoln into a dealership for the repair unless they have a better idea. J.

Hi! Try this.... Push the seat with force forward then move the lever to release it from being locked. This should work. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

The motor has two wires to run it. The forward switch has the wires inverted as to the reverse switch. You can take any DC motor and change the direction of the motor functions by inverting the wires attached to the brushes inside the motor. Car companies do the same thing although it is made more conveinent by having the wires installed inside a switch instead

No there are three drive motors, 1st replace the switch, this is the most common failure, next is the seat motor, that is not sold separately from the seat, u must buy an entire seat track assembly, a used one wouild be the only option, there is no way to make manual adjustments without taking the seat apart, and then that is a one time thing.

then u must find a used seat track, they do not sell parts for the seat, expect to pay around $400 for a used seat track assembly, use a on line used parts search form avail on the Internet.just type up used car parts, 100's of salvage yards are tied into this system..

Why does driver side power seat suddenly just move back and forth for only about a 1/4 of an inch?

These devices use motors with worm gears to provide the smooth operation and torque necessary to move the seat. The most common problem, other than the motors themselves failing (and since your does move somewhat, the motor is probably OK), the next biggest issue is something gets caught in the gear drive. Get a good look under the seat and see if there isn't something jamming the forward-backward motion of the seat.

MY DRIVERS SIDE POWER SEAT WONT GO BACK OR FORWARD BUT ALL OTHER PARTS OF THE SEAT WORK FINE I CAN HEAR SOMETHING CLICKING WHEN I TRY TO MOVE THE SEAT BUT THE SEAT WONT GO BACK OR FORWARD

Check under the seat for broken wires. Forward and backwards is the function most used and causes the wires to bend back and forth. you may need to remove the seat for inspection or you may be lucky and see the problem just by raising the seat as high as it will go.

Driver power seat

The automatic driver's seat may have been programed not to move forward when the key is in and go back when it's taken out. Or are you saying it doesn't move forward, back and not at all from the control on door panel?

Everything works on the power seats except unable to move seats forward and backward

There are usually 3 motors for power seats, 1 to tilt the seat, 1 to raise and lower the seat, and 1 to move the seat back and forth. I would think that motor is bad. Check for any obstuctions to the seat track.

The automatic driver's seat will not go forward or backward. The other functions work - seat back, up & down, etc. Could it be just a loose wire for the back & forth function?

the cause of your problem could be the switch, or the electric motor that moves the seat, or a wire, I would go to a salvage yard, and get a used switch (usually 5 to 19 dollars) and see if that fixes your problem!!

Electric front seat stuck in forward position. It's a 2002 Camry. I moved the electric adjustment completely forward looking for an item and it would not return back to the original position. Both tilts...

I had the same problem on my 2003 Toyota Camry. The threaded drive screws are what spin underneath the seat and cause the seat to move back and forth (same way a garage door opens or closes). When the seat gets all the way in the forward position, the threading on the drive screws ends, which causes the bolts connected to the seat to jam and get stuck. It should sound like the motor is trying to turn but it won't, it just clicks. Un-jam the bolts and rotate them one rotation from the all the way forward position to ensure your seat is reinstalled straight.

This is not necessary...as many have stated...use a hammer with switch in reverse position. Hammer the seat back...it will catch...
