Question about 1984 Ford Crown Victoria

1 Answer

I am not exactly sure which ac port, High or low side (or both), to put R134a refrigerant into my 1984 LTD Crown Victoria. The ac hasn't worked in about 6 years. Not sure if ac stays charged while "sitting up". It had been sitting for those 6 years. I haven't had enough money to have it checked. Someone suggested updating the fittings, and then try using the R134a. I changed the fittings, but I don't know if I just didn't put in enough, or didn't put it in the right port. The vehicle was purchased from our local Sheriff's Dept, and didn't have a manual. Please help answer my question if it won't cost me money. Thank you very much in advance

If the compressor really has sat that long, the seals will be dry and you will not likely be able to keep R134 in it. Always fill on the low pressure side. The fittings are a different size, so your fill hose should not fit on the high pressure side. The low pressure side is along the return from the cooler.

I am trying to put R134A in my car, and I wanted to make sure I put it in the low side service port, but I am having problems figuring out which one is the low side service port

The R134A connection hose will only fit on the low side service port. The high side port is bigger and will not fit that hose.

1984 honda accord AC problem, Clutch does not engage fuse good

The clutch will not engage unless there is sufficient refrigerant in the system.

I believe the 1984 Honda originally had r-12 which is largely illegal in the U.S. nowadays in that a certified mechanic must recover and recycle that kind of refrigerant.

I would recommend that you convert it to r134a if you can afford to do this, by putting new fittings on for a quick connect on the low side.

Add about 2 or 3 cans down at the compressor's low side (low pressure) which has larger pipes than the high side (high pressure).

Charge until the hose says you have 25 psi to 45 psi on the low side while the compressor clutch is turning.

good luck to you on this problem.

How do I recharge the ac with the kit

The kit will have full instructions included. The important thing is to tap into the LOW side of the A/C ...NOT the high side. The low side port is located between the compressor and the accumulator. The low side port also has a blue/light blue cap over the valve. The high side has a red cap.

2001 ford crown victoria will not take freon

The clutch is on the end of the a/c compressor.
When you are filling with refrigerant you need to make sure the ac is turned on and the fan is on high. Make sure the can of refrigerant is connected to the low side.
