Yes. If you loose belts you will loose water pump that keeps coolant moving and also the alternator which keeps charging the system. Less familiar with Galant belt setup but sounds like both parts are on same belt and has snapped. Don't drive until belt is replaced unless you want to buy a new motor or head gasket (not cheap)

Hot weather often causes weak batteries to die. Try a jump start and go to AutoZone for a battery and charger test.

Broken timing belt damage engine 93

You mean it will crank but not start ? Do you have normal compression, spark and fuel pressure ?
If the timing belt broke you won't have compression on all cylinders.

My steering stopped working but as long as I wasn't turning right or left the van ran well but then it starting having a knocking sound and now it won't turn over. It isn't out of oil. Help!

Check your serpentine belt in the engine compartment. It could have broke which would explain the power steering pump failing and now the battery could be dead since it was not being charged. If it is the belt, once it is replaced you should only need to jump the battery.

1997 Mitsubishi Montero SR. It started overheating and smoking noticeably all of a sudden. My wife drove it to the nearest repairman. The temperature gauge was on normal when it first was cranked again....

Really you should allow them run a diagnostic scan because this will definitely lead you to the cause of the problems.

From your explanation I can perceive that the EGR is blocked (needs servicing) and this has made the Oxygen sensors fail a great deal wherein it is sending wrong signal/ communications to the computer on the car; in this instance/ situation, the car will be on a hard starting module.

I will appeal you let the repairman scan the vehicle.

Good luck and thanks for believing in us at Fixya.

Do remember to rate this solution/ suggestion.

Cheers.

AC died, a belt is broken, now no tachometer or power

It probably ran the alternator too and without it the battery ran down so the engine went dead without any power.

If the timing belt is broken, chances are you would hear the pistons banging into the open valves as the engine turned over (broken timing belt means cam is not turning, and some valves will be open.).

Please reply what led up to the engine not starting, from the last time that the engine ran.
