Question about 1995 GMC Jimmy

2 Answers

I have a 98 jimmy that the a/c compressor only turns on when you rev the engine to a high rpm... once it engages it is fine and stays on at a idle...I also seem to have low pressure on the high side for some reason?...But the a/c is cold and seems to be working good once it turns on...I also recharged it from scratch just so I knew it wasnt a low freon problem...Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

There is no problem with the clutch gap...And that wouldnt cause it to have low pressure on the highside...Thanks anyways!

You may have overcharged the system. Also the clutch may be sticking & may have to be removed & freed up. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Next time it don't want to engages, with engine running at idle, tap on front of a/c clutch, if a/c clutch engages then, the gap on the a/c clutch needs to be adjusted.Hope this was very helpful.

Compressor and fans do not turn on until rev engine

I passed this question the first time I read it, so I will take a stab at it now.
The fans don't come on until the compressor has pumped the freon pressure up to say 150 or 200 psi. And the compressor clutch has to have voltage to engage the clutch.
I wonder if the clutch is going and needs 14 volts instead of 12 to engage ? Or the relay that powers the clutch ?
Speeding up the engine would increase voltage from the alternator.
This is assuming the serpentine belt is tight and everything else is working correctly.
I think I would swap the relay with another and put a meter on that circuit to the ac clutch to see what it takes to engage it.

I have 2002 Chevy s10 with ac issues. All blend doors and actuators work properly. Clutch engages on compressor. Blows warm air when ac is on. When I put a guage on it the psI stays on max and doesn't...

Yes. When you turn on the compressor via clutch Suction line pressures at around 3000 rpm should be around 30 PSI. If pressure stays high it is because the compressor is running but it is not doing squat and needs replacement - bad reed valves.

Turn signals fues blow ever time I drive it. but as long asit ******* still it work fine

Could be your rectifier/regulator. If it does not work then you might ger up to 18V from the alternator on high RPM. Connect voltmeter across the battery and rev the engine up. The voltmeter must show not more then 14V at any RPM.

How to check if my clutch is good on my car A/C

Once it is engaged unless you are hearing any unusual slipping noise there is no reason that the clutch can go bad.
Start the engine rev up asking someone to be within and switch on AC to idle, now rev up the AC. If there is no visible signs of the RPM of the compressor dropping off the clutch is good. However if there is problems relative to cooling it can be failrue of the compressor, clogged evaporator or leakage of gas.

4 wd low range will sometimes engage 4wd high will never engage

I had a very similar problem with my 98 gmc 2500. The 4 low would engage - though the upshifts were erratic, but no 4 high though the light sometimes came on. I changed out the electric shift solenoid or whatever it is called, on the transfer case and it worked fine after that. A fairly simple fix that can be done in 15 minutes. Hope this helps.
