Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

2001 cavilier with 180,000 miles on it. Car drives fine for 20 miles, then looses power. Will idle but won't pull itself. shut it off, and you might go another couple of miles. leave set for a couple of days, and it will do the same all over again. changed fuel filter, wondering if it's the fuel pump.

Hi, your engine may be getting too hot. Check to see if your radiator fan comes on. or Take your Ignition Module to an autozone and have it tested.
The computer is telling you that there is an error with the car and the computer would shut the car down.....

Changed timing belt on my 2001 ford focus 2.0 dohc and now it is idyling high. I read somewhere that I have to drive around for 20-30 miles for the car to relearn the idle. They said after driving around...

That's rubbish, when the fan belt is changed as long as it's not to tight or to loose everything will be fine, the fan belt operates the power steering, air conditioning etc, if that's all working when fitted an easy way to find out another problem your not sure of is to pop into a garage and have a didiagnostic test.

New battery affecting idle?

Some car computers have to "relearn" after power has been disconnected. Take it out on a backroad away from traffic and drive it for a bit.....stop and at different speeds....and see if that helps

1999 M-B E320 drives great for about 5 or 600 miles then as i'm driving the check engine light comes on and the car looses power and idles rough like it wants to stall. It does not stall though. We

When the check engine light is turned on by the powertrain control module (computer) a fault code is stored to record what it is that caused the fault, in order to begin the process of diagnosis of this problem you have you must have the control module scanned for the stored codes.

3 things happened today. Have approx. 180,000 miles. Tranny started slipping, headlight went out, windows would not roll up. Crazy! Also ABS light came on as I pulled in to the driveway. HELP!!!!

Power ground not the 18 gauge wire the thick 12 gauge wire. For a 180,000 has it ever been rebuilt? Its time is giving out. On some model and years before VSS the ABS acted as a speed indicator to shift the gear but in you case ABS is seperate, you have a 2001 on down. the parts you buy will eventually be a whole car.

2001 chevy cavilier, 180,000 miles on it. Drive the car for days and it's fine, then it looses power. Let it set for a while, and you might go another couple of miles. Let it set a week, and right know it...

My husbands 2000 model would stall while driving it. He said it made an electrical noise near the steering column. He had it to a chevy garage 3 times for the same problem. It would quit for a year and start again. They changed a sensor, and even a fuel pump which they charged $8oo for. Finally after several attemps my husband changed the ignion switch and it seemed to fix the problem. When he tore it apart he found what looked like melted wiring cover that had drained onto the wiring. When he first bought the car he a recall fixed ,some kind of pigtail in there and we wondered about that.Try this , The ignition switch:I think this might be your solution. It was fairly cheap and pretty simple to do yourself.

The van stalls without notice at times when ready

This sounds like a classic case of either a dirty/faulty IAC (Idle Air Control) motor or a sticking EGR valve. If you can prevent it from stalling by keeping your fot on the gas slightly and it always restarts right away and runs good when restarted, I'd suspect the IAC first. If it "chugs"when stopping and will run rough even with a little (not a lot) of gas pedal and/or it runs rough when restarted, I'd suspect the EGR.
