My Stop lamps do not shine sometimes then sometimes they will work. Is there a shortage in the wiring?

Check the headlight dimmer switch. 95 Luminas have a bad problem with this. Rest of the lights work but not brakes. Try holding brakes and wiggling signal light switch & see if brake light works, if so you need to have switch replaced

Do you know how to test using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Is there B+ voltage going into the brake light switch ? An coming out when the brake pedal is pressed ? What fuse's ? There is only one fuse for the brake lights !
The BRAKE SW fuse in the RH I/P fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally-open stop lamp switch. When you press the brake pedal the switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to the left and right stop lamp assemblies and to the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL). The left and right stop lamp along with the CHMSL are grounded at G302.

My 2001 dodge neon, turn signals , hazards, and brake lights do not work. 3rd brake light does work though. Any ideas?


Maybe something wrong with multifunction switch? Your lower stop lamps are wired through the multifunction switch, the high mount stop lamp isn't wired that way. The lower brake lamps and turn signal, use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. Only high-level brake light works. What's wrong?


Your lower brake lamps are wired through the multifunction switch. The high-mount brake lamp isn't wired that way.

At the lower rear, the turn and stop use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time.

I'd have to check circuits to and from multifunction switch. Sometimes you can get under the dash, find wiring harness to/from steering column, If you can find the proper color wire for lower brake lamps, see if voltage on that wire with brake activated, if no voltage, the problem could be the wiring in steering column or multifunction switch.

Stop Lamps
The STOP fuse in the engine wiring harness junction block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally open stop lamp switch. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to both the VEHICLE STOP fuse and the VEHICLE CHMSL fuse. The current flow is now to the stop lamps which are grounded at G401 and G402. The center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) is grounded at G401.
For trailer wiring, a separate stop lamp circuit is connected through the GMSF to the trailer wiring harness.

Instead of improvising, why not get the stop lamps working the way they should be. You must be getting power through 15A fuse 23 in the fuse block and the stop lamp switch, otherwise the high mounted stop lamps would not work. Stop lamp power is routed through the turn signal switch and is applied to the tail/turn/stop-lamps. That should solve your problem

I have 1999 mercury sable. My power locks, windows and shifting gear stop working after my cigarette lighter melting wires and burning out


By stating what you have found in the cigarette lighter is like you wanted to put fire on your car. BE VERY CAREFUL in future, you cause in your ignorance a strong shortage that's why you had melted and smelly wires. You need a good electrician to rewire and check all the relays and fuses which surely are blown due to this shortage.

Is there a fuse for the high mounted stop light on the 2006 Hyundai Sonata


The fuse is normally a parallel connection to the rear brake lamp and so if this is not working then the connection to lamp assembly is not open.
Sometimes the wires can open in the section and if you are able to trace the wires from the hood lamp it will be seen to be connecting to the rear section.
Find the break and join the connection , or loop from the rear brake lamp circuit.

i would check the fuses, and then all of the connection to the bulbs , to make sure that there is not corrosion, or shortage in the wires.

Signal light shortage they sometimes work and sometimes they don't. What should i do?


check fuses to see if they are properly seated...if all is okay remove steering wheel column look for any frayed wires check to see if when tilting the steering wheel helps the signals work.
