Question about 1992 Ford Crown Victoria

1 Answer

Auto failed to start until cooling down for abouut an hour. After driving for about 45 min. the vehicle appeared to jump out of the overdrive gear: i.e., acting like it was in neutral. Put car in D2 and it ran fine. I later drove car in normal drive and it ran fine. Both instances occured the same day approx. an hour apart. Mechanic advises fuel pump is bad. My question: can low fuel pressure or bad fuel pump affect the shifting of the transmission or are their two seperate problems?

Hi a bad fuel pump which will sometimes lead to low fuel pressure can affect the shifting of transmission because often, a dirty fuel filter or injectors will drop fuel pressure at high RPM which can have the same effect as a failing ignition system.......

If you have an overdrive transmission the direct drive clutch may not be releasing. Have the trouble codes read to see if the computer or a sensor is starting to fail.

I have a 1996 Honda Accord with 268k miles that sputters at the same timethe speedometer needle fluctuates wildly. But I do have a new Vehicle Speed Sensor. This typically only happens when the engin

I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.

1996 explorer what gear do u drive in and?do u supposed 2 cut the overdrive off when?just regularly driving

OVERDRIVE is fine in most driving. if you tow a trailler or pulling long hills take out of overdrive. otherwise the vehicle will handle when to shift.

I have a dodge 4x4 1500 the trans temp light comes as well as the over drive off light when vehicle is at an idle i then lose overdrive. vehicle is only at an idle for 2 or 3 min. havent even started to...

There is a check valve in the transmission cooling lines on these trucks. This valve is in the line near the radiator on the passenger side. This valve can get stuck and cause the Trans to overheat due to no trans cooler flow. When these Transmission get hot overdrive goes out. Located this valve take the line apart near it and use a small screwdriver and try to free it up. It is spring loaded and should push in and spring out easily. If you can't you must replace it. Don't drive it like that or you could ruin the transmission

My 2002 trailblazer is making a noise when I go over 45 mph and appears to not be going in gear quickly at that speed

Check your transmission fluid level and/or have the fluid changed. If problem persist have a transmission professional at a dealership or transmission shop service it.

1990 f150 transmission up shift to early

Sounds like the passing gear cable is out of adjustment. Get a shop manual and see what the specs are on how to adjust it properly. It is a pretty simple fix.

Probably low oil pressure in the transmission or worn clutches.

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
