Question about 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5 Sedan

My 2007 Altima had same problem Not starting. I changed the switch on the brake pedal. It starts fine. Test drove it but it feels like the brake is on. Could the switch be in the wrong position? Does it require a computer reset. Please respond

My kia magentis 2007 crdi on tick over if I push my brake pedal down I get a pulsating coming thru the pedal


Not sure what you mean by tick over but pulse through pedal is usually from ABS / stability system. If you mean you feel this when first starting up vehicle it is probably system doing self test. They do self test at start but usually you don't feel it that much. May be nothing - especially if no light coming on. Only other pulse you may feel is if power brake booster is failing. If you are driving and brakes feel hard to push at times then I would suspect the brake booster for that.

How do you know that a brake booster is bad?


Booster problems are rare but they do go bad sometimes.
A bad booster generally causes the brake pedal to feel hard to push down, and a lot of pressure on the brake pedal is required to make the car stop.
Rarely, a vacuum brake booster will develop a vacuum leak, which can cause engine performance problems, hissing or whistling noise, as well as requiring increased pressure on the brake pedal to stop.

The first test:
With the vehicle parked, turned OFF, and the parking brake set, pump the brake pedal 5 to 6 times. If the pedal gets harder to push after several times, your booster is probably good.

The second test (To make sure):
After the test above, without making any changes, press and hold the brake pedal with light to moderate pressure.
Now with your foot still on the brake pedal, start the vehicle.
If the booster is good, you will feel the pedal go down when the engine starts.

2007 gmc canyon sputters like it is going to cut off when applying brakes sometimes hard to start. just changed plugs and air filter . could it be brake booster or something else


if I say possible servo booster is faulty,surely you will feel it on the brake pedal ( stiff ),or the engine running would be erratic.the other alternative situation is the pipe( hose ) which is connected with inlet manifold and servo booster and inside has the check valve probably is faulty. Test : off engine,pump brake pedal several times till gets stiff. Keeping your foot on brake pedal start the engine and if your servo works fine then the pedal goes a bit down,if not will not move at all. If the engine is running erraticly then with engine off, remove the pipe connecting manifold and servo block the pipe you remove from servo side,block it and start the engine,If engine run fine,then you must confirm whether is the servo or the check valve hose. For the check valve hose how to check,just put in your mouth the servo side pipe and blow into,if the air goes in the engine means that the check valve is broken and you must renew the pipe with check valve,if on blowing into will not allow air to get through,means is ok and the servo is the fault. You probably have a shorted Brake pedal switch under the dash. This is part of the interlock system which is suppose to stop you from starting the car without your foot on the brake.

The switch should be on the brake pedal lever. It is common for feet to hit it and crack, break, or move it out of position. You need to replace and adjust thisimportant part.

I hope my solution is helpful. Often the rear brake lights do not light.

My 20074 Nissan Altima 3.5 will not start. The dash lights and fan will come on but it will not start.


I had the same problem with my 2007 altima I took it to the dealership and they said it was the switch in the break. They said that when the witch goes out it does not recognize that you are pressing the brake pedal down so the engine will not start. My extended just ran out so I had to pay $130 to get it fixed.

Altima 2007 hybrid break problem


Very interesting post, But I can't help but think there must still be a problem if you have to press the brake pedal really hard. I am not doubting you one bit on what you were told but it seems a bit odd to me.

I can see where a bad brake switch could cause this problem, ( The switch that lets the car know your brake is applied and it is safe to start the car).

My brake lights arent working!


Normally you'll find a brake switch at arm of brake pedal, up under dash. Switch should have 12v going in one side, when pedal not pushed, and both sides when pedal is pushed.

2007 altima won't start


Thanks to this forum I just fixed my 07 Altima - Every time I pressed the start button the starter did not turn. I knew it wasn't the battery because if the battery was bad the solenoid clicks when you press the start button.

It turned out one of the two brake switches (the one with the four wires) was causing the problem. I removed the connector and pulled off the back of the switch. I was able to see one of the contacts was corroded. I sanded it down with an emory board till both surfaces were shiny again and reassembled the switch. Works like a charm!!

Problem wtih starting car


I had the same issue. It turned out that the break pedal switch was broken. The engine start push button is connected to a second break pedal switch that senses when you push it. That switch is independent from your main break pedal switch that turns on the brake lights of the car.
