Different cars have different mileages for changing timing belts. I've seen it as low as 35,000 and as high as 100,000 miles. This information would be in your owner's manual, if not in a section titled for timing belts then it would be listed on the maintenance schedule chart. You best bet would bwe to check with the manual and go from there. Hope this helps.

Should I change the timing belt on my 05 aveo at 60000 miles like recommended?

Absolutely !! That motor is probably an interference motor, meaning the valves must be closed when the piston is up or they will interfere with each other and break something - or several somethings!! I have repaired cylinder heads from interference motors that had a timing belt break - it cost 3 times the rebuild cost due to the extensive damage done when the timing belt broke. It would be considerably cheaper to have the belt changed than to have the head repaired or replaced, as modern heads are thin walled - they will break before older heads would. It could also damage a piston and,as you have hypereutectic pistons balanced by weight ( must be within a couple grams of each other ) 1 piston cannot be changed - they ALL have to be changed, an expensive oops for sure!!!

Ok, i have a 2005 chevy aveo and i ould like to

NOW. These cars are notorious for timing belts snapping and GM has advised to replace at 60K. I have this car and it has an interference engine, meaning that if the belt snaps there is a good chance the engine's pistons will bend the intake/exhaust valves, meaning you would have to have the engine rebuilt if this happens.

I am about to have mine changed, along with the water pump and tensioner since the water pump should be replaced before 100,000 and involves the same labor. I've found that at a Chevy dealership the whole package ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you call.

I need to reset the timing marks on an aveo

The crankshaft sprocket points to 6 oclock and aligns with a mark on the rear cover, the 2 camshaft sprockets align facing each other. However, have you check your valves? This is an interference engine, and in most cases you will bend 2 or more valves if the belt breaks. Good luck!
