You need to make sure the coolant is circulating. Check to make sure the top and bottom hoses are hot and firm to the touch. If the bottom hose is not hot and firm the water isn't circulating which means the thermostat is stuck in the closed position. Also check to make sure the radiator isn't clogged or doesn't have to many crushed fins that prevents the air from properly cooling it.

Why am i overheating

anon post
no engines option state (no size and cyl. counts)
is the dash toy gauge working right or fibbing.?
i never trust one, i use the nand IR pyro gun for 15 bucks.
the gun can in fact tell you if any RAD tubes are clogged
thermostat not in backwards? and bleed hole up hill?

a bad rad tube will read hot on the feed end and about 50 degrees
less on the other end, if not the tube is clogged. easy huh,
running 50% coolant
no coolant in the engine oil?
no oil in the top of rad neck, or carbon chucks.
signs:?
not getting so hot it pings?
steam out tail pipe end on hot motor and stinks sweet (glycol sweet)?
rad cap works and holds 14psi.? the big rad hoses.when squeezed
will reflect that 14 pound per square inch. super easy test.
no leaks.
no leaks on passengers toes, or to ground or to engine oil pan(milky)
if all that pans out the pump is bad. or belt loose.

one thing not stated.
does it overheat parked and running fast. or both.??????
if only parked the fans are failing.
all engines over heat parked, and in FACT that is the FSM '
test, doing exactly that. you get it warm, then parked
it starts to get hot. then the fans come on,
if not , fix fan(s)
summer answer, not in winter in Alaska.... different answers there.

are the air paths from the grill to the back side of RAD
clean not all parked in dirt bugs and what not?
if the fan cant suck, the RAD will overheat. for sures.

Put in new motor and now it is running a little hot

is this a new motor or a used motor that is new to you.if its used it could have a problem before you got it.it could be a stuck or poor working thermostat causing the problem or a bad water pump.is the cooling fan working properly the one at the rad.just some things to check out.

I have a 84 351 windsor that runs way to hot i put

seems to me that you could have an air lock, try loosening the rad cap slightly and run car until fans kicks in, squeeze upper rad hose a few times to push any air out. Careful with hot hoses. see if this helps.

My 1998 buick century is leaking coolant from the engine where the water pump is mounted.

it could be a loos hose clip or the water pump, there is a gasket behind the water pump this could be leaking as well there is a quick fix you could try if its a clip or gasket leaking it should stop the leak, but it wont stop a water pump leaking ,,,,,,,,,,,
get some "rad seal" and tip it into the rad,,,not the header tank it go's right into the rad then top it up with water and run up the engine itll its hot after a short time the leak should stop,,fords put it in all there new cars and vans that come out there fatctorise,, so if its good for them to use it,, it must work?

Replaced radiater ,thermastat still no heat and

Did you run engine from cold, WITH HEATER ON, and fill cap off when re-filling system? If not, try that and see what happens. Let the engine get up to operating temperature and rad fan come on to cool 2 or 3 times before putting cap back on.

Replacing water pump

Drain rad and remove hoses and fan shroud catching coolant as you go. I like the rad out so there's more room and less likely to damage it with tools. Take off belts by loosening alternator or if equipt with tension idler pulley be careful it doesn't spring at you when you loosen it. Remove fan bolts, fan and pulley. Remove pump and clean old gasket off motor. Reverse the process to reinstall. Ask for torque specs(tightening specs) when you get new pump.
