Question about 2000 Jaguar XJ

1 Answer

My 2000 XJ8 Jag's sunroof is leaking on the passenger at the very back. I've noticed that when I close either front doors the sunroof moves up like it is not closed tight. What is the problem?

There are drain tubes fitted to let water run out. The tubes drain out at the rear of the front wheel arches. Check that the tubes are not blocked. The sun roof on my XJ8 is slightly "loose" when closed but is not leaking. Sit in the car and have somebody hose water on the roof to check for the origine of the leak.

Water dripping onto passenger side floor from the inside passenger assist handle.

Does your car have a sun (or moon) roof? A leak in a sunroof will sometimes follow the roof over to the door post and down to the floor were the water will accumulate. This can be hard to find sometimes but having one person spraying water on the roof while a second one checks the inside of the vehicle you may be able to pinpoint the leak.
Hope this helps.

There is water leaking inside above my passenger side door when it rains pretty hard?

is the water leak allowing the water to wick up into the headliner or is the headliner getting wet without water coming past the weather stripping around the door?

If it is wicking then fix the weather stripping.
If the water is getting headliner wet with out passing the weather stripping then you have a leaking sun roof.

You can the door seal by sitting in the car while you have some spray water (garden hose) gentle at the frontal and upper door seal.
If not leak there inspect seal of sun roof and real seal with correct type of sealant.

2002 XJ8 41,000 miles. At 70 to 75 MPH wind noise from the roof line on front passanger side. Taped the drip line all the way from fender to top of roof but still get noise. Door seals on both the outside...

Most cars are very quite at that speed.
A seal must be out of place somewhere. You may have to tape the sun roof and door opening completely on the outside for testing.
Also, sit in the passenger seat and have someone drive while you listen at different areas of the door edges and roof areas through a leftover paper towel center tube.
You have some age on the car, just wiping down all rubber soft seal parts with a good rubber conditioner may help too.
.......and don't overlook the door glass seals.

Water leak on fwd and back passenger side after every rain storm

pull your carpet up near the leak area and look for muddy body seams. it is possible one of the factory body seams are leaking- possibly in the cowl(under wipers) area, especially if it leaks when the car is sitting. there will be dirt/mud around the seams that are leaking. also you can check door seals by running the car on HIGH DEFROST with all doors and windows closed. spray around with a 50/50 soapy water solution. obviously bubbles will form around your leak.
