Use c- clamps and a two by four or the break pads to push it in back

Hello, These warning lights are pretty accurate. Autozone, Advance, and Oreillys give free scans although the engine system and brake system can require different scanners.

Check your brake fluid level first. The ABS system requires sensors which require counting the revolutions of each wheel. Sometimes the sensors may break, but they can be blinded by dust and debris.

If you have a broken brake pad, the warning light can come on. Often the Emergency brake pad, inside the rear Rotor, can fall apart and trigger an ABS warning.

You need to inspect both the front and rear brakes or take your car to a brake shop for evaluation. Sometimes you can get a free estimate, and some shops can charge for inspecting the Emergency brakes because of the work needed to reach them.

I have a 98 dodge durango 4wheel drive 5.2 v8.. breaks are getting hot and wearing out the rear pads. rear have drum front have disk. all 4wheels are getting hot. new everything all the way around.pads,...


check the abs fuse to see if it as blown they system may just be putting more pressure on different parts at differnt times because it is not getting proper control, also if the breaks are new you might consider using a dab of break cement on the back side of the pads and shoes to allow for proper release from the drums/rotors.

Replace my front break pads. I know how to change the pads but I cant get the pad to release from the rotor


You need to use a (C) clamp to depress the caliper into its bore, only after opening the bleeder valve to exit the filthy fluid. Only then can you remove the caliper. You need to free the pressure against the rotor. Not being sarcastic here but if you know how to properly replace brake pads you should have known this.

bleed your brakes. new pads always take time to break in. Everytime I change a set they are never as good as the ones I replaced until after a little break in period. Do you have a high pedal or low pedal?

Rear break replacement 2005 jetta. How do you release the pressure on the piston that engages the rear breaks so I can install new pads.


those pistons have an internal clutch mechanism the piston has to be turned in while compressing two slots use long needlenose pliers if the tool is not available to you

Parking break


One or both of your rear emergency brake cables are/is frozen. Give them both a good soaking with nothing but PB blaster. make sure you get the entire sheilded area. You may at the same time want to adjust up the rear brakes. Now back to that pedal. Have someone under the drivwers side pull hard on the E-bracke center cable while you depress and release the foot pedal. don't do this until the cables have set all night with the spray on them. 2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving


It sounds like the rear calipers are bad. Raise the rear wheels and see if you can turn the tires. If you can't, open the bleeder. If you still can't replace the caliper. If you can turn the wheel after you open the bleeder, replace the brake hose to that wheel.

Rear disc brakes drag after installing new pads


Just did my rear brakes this weekend, Monday had a very slight drag. Noted that when I installed new pads I had to tap them on. That shouldn't be. When brakes are released, there should be enough play to allow the pads to back off the disc. Tonight, I removed the pads and filed down the ends of the tips that go into the top and bottom channels until I could install and remove them with fingertips, that gives them enough play to grab and release. Drag disappeared; the old girl ran like she should.
