Why would a 1993 jeep wrangler 2.5 motor fire only on cyl 1 and 3 and then only on 2 and 4 the next time it is turned over

we are loss as to understand how you can tell that it is changing pistons when firing
If it is a miss on starting how can you tell which pistons are alternating on the firing
you need to comment on what was done before the problem started( washed engine etc)
any work done on the engine
how long has the problem been occurring.
There is an answer but to get close we need more infomation

I get an error code P0302, miss fire on cylinder 2 detected. Wires and plug have been replaced. What else can cause this problem? Thank You for your assistance.

Burnt valve, blown head gasket, hole in piston, broken piston compression ring, bad coil if this engine has coil on plug configuration.

'86 honda accord 4 cyl...runs very rough as though missing on 1 cyl ...when removing plug wires 1 at a time each 1 removed makes engine run worse except for #1 cyl which when removed smooths engine out...

no, the plug is firing. But the timing is off. the plug is firing quite a bit before top dead center on that cylinder. The burning of the fuel mixture is occurring while that piston is on its way up and is slowing it down---dragging down the whole engine. i think you should change the distributor cap and rotor as cylinder one is firing at the same time as cylinder 2or 4. This indicates a possible carbon track in the distributor cap.

Engine was miss firing so took to an auto hobby and they said that the plug in cylinder 7 was covered in oil. What could be some causes of this?

Could be broken piston oil ring(s), bad valve seals... Have them do a compression test. How long since you have changed the plugs??

My piston 6 miss fire, but the car crank and sheaking let me know what can be please my car is minivan mercury villager 1998 3.0

Could be a lot of things,
Check spark plug wire
Spark plug
If those are good, get a compression test done to see how the cylinder is.
You could also have a bad fuel injector, which will not deliver fuel.

Engine running rough . like its miss firing or on 5 cylinders

Often this sort of problem is easily done by accidentaly removing vacume hoses. Even the smallest ones can make a huge difference. It would be easy to mistake where the hoses are attached. Major problems would be noticed by Looking for holes in the bottom of the oil pan, or melted piston heads if possible to see beyond the spark plug hole with a light, of course this is rare and the piston would have to be at the top of the cylinder to see it. Other than that test different spark plugs to see if the spark is the same. Be careful to not shock yourself while turning over the engine.

Engine missing out

  1. check the battery .
  2. check engine oil for dilution .
  3. check piston ring and engine piston that are corroded .
  4. Change oil engine oil. Check the ignition system.
  5. check the spark plug and set the firing order of the spark plug.
  6. check the cooling system with its thermostat. To your 1989 old mobile cutlass.

No spark number 6 cylinder v-8

does not fire where? at the plug? have u checked the wire, cap..hmmm..77 many miles on that motor? have u done a compression check? could be burned valve, fouled plug bad wire worn cap and or rotor ..check the obvious first. start at the plug..if it's not firing, swap it for a known good one.. if it doesn't fire, swap the wire, if it still doesn't fire swap cap and rotor..if that doesn't solve or identify where the bad component is.or if you find you have fire at the plug but still misses on the cylinder.... start looking inside.. run compression check... if it's low squirt oil in cylindeer and check again.. if it comes up drastically.. it's worn rings..but if it stays low probably worn valves. but i'm thinking its somewhere between the distributer and the plug.. good luck...
