Make sure you get a fuel pressure reading to know if you need to replace the fuel pump assembly...it should have 43 psi reading. If it is bad the fuel filters need replaced too. A fuel pump should never be ran lower that a quater of a tank because it kills the life of the pump, it acts as the pumps cooling system. Check for spark and see if there are any engine codes like a bad crank signal. Good luck

check for codes first or check fuses. Key may have lost code, try another key if you have one.

My 1998 honda civic died when i was driving it. It cranks but dosn't start it also makes a noice at the beginning could it be the fuel pump?

How many miles are on it? Did you have the timing belt changed at 90,000 miles? Is there spark to the spark plugs? Do you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail? A broken timing belt will make the car sound alot different than normal when cranking.

What does acam or crankshaft sensor do

  • The crankshaft position sensor identifies position of the crankshaft to the ignition control module (ICM), engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM)
  • When not replaced, vehicle could experience no- or hard start, long crank time, misfire, lack of power, excessive hydrocarbons in oil, spark plug fouling, catalytic converter failure, poor fuel economy, CEL/MIL illumination or intermittent shutdown.
  • The camshaft position sensor identifies position of the camshaft to the ignition control module (ICM), engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM)
  • When not replaced, vehicle could experience no- or hard start, long crank time, misfire, lack of power, excessive hydrocarbons in oil, spark plug fouling, catalytic converter failure, poor fuel economy, CEL/MIL illumination or intermittent shutdown

98 toyota cranks but will not start

Has the timing belt ever been replaced? Does it crank over kind of weird sounding compared to how it was before this? You could put some gas down the throttle body, if it tries to start you may have problem with the fuel pump. Leave the air intake hose off going to the throttle body while you are cranking it over is it trying to spray the gas back out of the throttle body? If it does the cam timing is off and belt will need to be replaced. Please rate my answer so I get points for it.

I have spark thru the plugs and fuel thru the fuel filter but the car will not start. It cranks over and has fired a couple of times but will not catch. I have checked the fuel pump, and replaced the fuel...

If you have spark then it is not the crank sensor. Try starting it with the throttle all the way open. Get some air in the engine. If it acts like it wants to start then you have probably gas fouled the plugs. If you haven't replaced the plugs in a while, now would be a good time. This happens alot in the winter time.

The engine turns over but it will not start, change the fuel pump still didnot work. will the crack sensor be causing the problem

The crank sensor will cause this problem however, have you done a compression check? Do a compression check on all cylinders if you haven't. If the compression is 0 or low on more than one cylinder then I would look at the timing beltas a problem if the vehicle has over 75,000 miles and has never had the timing belt/chain replaced. That is more likely the problem unless your fuel pump is not powering up, check the fuse it is not uncommon for a new pump to cause an old or weak fuse to blow.

Checking for spark is really simple while fuel delivery is more complicated because of the the way it is metered for delivery. On VW's a fuel pump relay is used and a jumper cable connected to relay box. This controls the fuel pump to deliver fuel manually. With a fuel pressure gauge connected to the line from the pump continued withing the system, you assess whether you have correct fuel pressure, maintain it within a specif duration. Electronic fuel injectors do stick or stay open causing very poor or no start condition. Make sure you have fuel delivery since you are positive that spark is present.

CAR TURNS OVER BUT WON'T START

check if got a spark , pull off HT lead wire hold it 6 mm from coil or ground, crank engine if good spark is present during cranking, then check your fuel pump, if not check ig. coil and amplifier. first see timing belt make sure it is turning with engine cranking.

I would check the fuel lines themselves and make sure there is no blockage. If not you might want to check your fuel injectors and see if they need to be replaced. also make sure you didnt install fuel filter backwards.
