The best way to fix it is find a good savlge yard , you will need complete steering column with switchs wiring and anti theft control box. they need to be match set all from the same car. shop around make shure they understand your problem , all the parts will cost about 250.00 350.00$ make shure to get money back warr.if not keep shoping. make shure the person understands and knows the system if not it will not work. I have repaired over 20 of this type and the first one sent me back to the school of hardknoxs.

Can i hot wire a 2004 suburban?

No. the ignition switch is not at the key its down the column at the switch which is activated by a rod. You can do it there but i would not. just call a key guy and save yourself a lot of money. If you do the wrong wires you can do a lot of damage.

Hope this helps. Mike

1997 Pontiac Firebird, will not crank. Changed fuel pump and the relay, now the security light is coming on and injectors will not engage...HELP

On my '97 Camaro, the first thing I hear when turning the ignition key is the fuel pump run and the fuel rail pressure up. .
First thought is, manual cars must have clutch depressed and auto cars in Park or Neutral to enable cranking. If these inhibit switches are faulty then that could be your problem. Had an old 5-speed manula Pontiac Fiero with a faulty inhibit switch. I just bypassed the switch with a piece of jumper wire. Just had to remember to ensure car was in neutral when starting!!
Do you have a shop manual with wiring diagrams? The Haynes manual schematic covering both Camaro and Firebird diagram shows a theft deterrent relay between the starter key switch and the main starter solenoid mounted on the starter motor. This relay actuating coil has a volts feed on one side of the coil from the inhibit switches fitted to ensure the car is in Park or Neutral for Automatics or the clutch must be depressed for manual cars. The other side ot this relay coil is grounded via the Theft Deterrent Module.
There is also a further fuse. Number 16, a 3 amp fuse labelled "Crank fuse" that is labelled as going to the Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module. Not sure what that is but with the fuse labelled "crank fuse" it sounds important!! it may be linked to the theft deterrent module but my manual is not clear on that.
If all the fuses are OK then I think the problem lies in the anti theft system.
To bypass the anti-theft and enable cranking you could simply break the yellow/black wire from the theft deterrent relay and ground the relay coil. (cut the wire and connect to ground / chassis, the bit going to the relay not going toward the anti-theft module) Turning the starter key should then apply volts that are coming from the transmission inhibit or clutch inhibt switches to the coil of the theft inhibit relay. This relay then pulls in and applies vots to the main starter solenoid and so enable cranking. The starter solenoid should be heard as a solid thunk as it pulls in. Small relays as a tick.
If this works then wire in a hidden switch in this ground wire to act as a unique anti theft device.
However if the vehicle control electronics are also fried then you will still have problems.
Hope all this is of some help and best of luck.
Cheers, Brian. (Over in Manchester, England, Europe)

Anti theft bypass on 99 ford ranger??????

Technically, you can't bypass it. Neither can the car thieves.
The security module is built into the instrument cluster and it "talks" to the engine computer. The two components have to be sync-ed with the key codes.
You may be able to hot-wire the coil and fuel pump but I doubt the injectors will work since the computer will be out of service.
Usually a dealer has to reprogram the cluster and computer with the new key code.

89 firebird anti theft code won't let car start

If code 53 involves the PASS system for your car, the chip in the key has failed, or the sensor in the lock cylinder, or the control module.
The anti-theft system disables the starter and the fuel injectors. You could bypass those circuits to get the car started.

CAR WON'T START, NOTHING AT ALL.HAVE LIGHTS,HORN WORKS CHECKED THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM TO SEE IF IT NEED TO GET RESET

Most cars have an ignition chip on their ignition key. This is an anti-theft feature. If it gets damaged or your ignition switch doesn't read it properly your car won't start. Everything else will work your engine just wont crank over. You can replace the ignition switch and key or you could bypass this theft feature. Talk to a mechanic to locate your ignition wire under the dash near the steering column. You can get a resistor (at Radio Shack) that matches the resistance of your key. Cut the ignition wire and put the resistor in its place to reconnect the cut wire. If you cut the right wire and the resistor matches your key you can trick your onboard computer to allow the car to start. This is what I did rather than replacing the switch. Cost of this fix less than $3.00 this way.

Remove ignition lock to switch link 1995 suburban

The ignition lock assembly contains two components: a lock cylinder to deter theft and an electrical portion that supplies power to electrical components such as the radio, electric windows, and windshield wipers. The electrical portion of the ignition switch also provides power to the starter motor to start the engine.
The ignition lock is an anti-theft device that prevents a vehicle from being driven unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch. If the ignition key is not in the ignition switch, it 's impossible to turn the steering wheel.
To replace the ignition switch cylinder lock, the trim panels around the steering wheel are removed. Then the tamper-proof hardware that attaches the ignition lock assembly to the steering column is removed. The ignition lock assembly is removed from the steering column, and the lock cylinder is replaced. The new ignition lock is reattached to the steering column, and the trim panels are replaced.make sure you dissconect battery first the 1997 had a recall on the ignition switch dont no if the 1995 had a recall if so they will replace for free

I wont even attempt to start the starter is new battery is new and netural safty switch is new

find the problem before you replace any other parts not needed. is the anti-theft light flashing? do the warning lights come on when you turn the key on. headlights come on bright? can you take a wire and connect the BIG terminal to the little terminal on the starter and "bypass" the rest of the car? when you do this, the engine should spin over, if the key is on, the engine should crank over and run.. If bypassing works, you need to find out why there is no power to the purple wire when trying to start. be sure there is power TO the neutral switch, if not, check the ign switch. find the wire at the base of the steering column........ dont replace any more parts untill you find the problem.
