Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

When I turn the key in the ignition I don't hear anything and my car won't start. I tested the started and it is fine. I replaced the ignition switch. Could it be my alternator or my neutral safety switch preventing my car from starting?

No. the noise you're not hearing is the fuel pump. When u turn ur key on you should hear a buzzing like sound from the rear of the vehicle. If not, and ur car don' start, probably fuel pump. Just to verify the faulty fuel pump, have an assistant open the fuel tank cover and remove the gas cap itself. With you inside turn just the key on, and have your assistant listen for the "buzzing" or "hummin" sound. if nothing there, then faulty fuel pump. If noise is present, then perhaps you have a different problem like nothing is reaching the engine, fuel wise. Like a plugged fuel filter. when replacing the fuel pump, ALWAYS do the new strainer as installing the old one could cause a whole new set of problems and eventually wipe out the new one as well *RULE OF THUMB, WITH NEW FUEL PUMP, REPLACE FUEL FITLER.* this will be easier on the pump output to the engine. good luck.!

Why cavalier 2000 almost starts but won't what is the problem, battery and starter ruled out

That should be enough gas. Maybe the fuel pump is not working. Turn the key to on- you should hear the buzz or whine of the pump iin the gas tank for about 2 seconds. It should turn on briefly to pressurize the fuel line and then shut off until the car is cranked over. If you don't hear anything from the rear when turning the key to on, the pump may have quit working or power is not getting to it. Occasionally, a pump will still work but not well enough to make sufficient pressure for the fuel injectors to work. To check that, the pressure would have to be tested.
So, listen for the pump. If good, check your ignition by checking for spark at a sparkplug. If no spark, the ignition system will have to be checked and tests run to find the problem. If you have spark and still no go, test the fuel pressure. If pressure is low, replace the fuel filter and re-test.

1994 Honda Prelude si starting problems

Your starter motor is either not getting power or in need of replacement. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with your car.

Also check your battery connections for no corrosion there as well as by the starter motor. Low voltage circuits in a car are extremely vulnerable to poor contact issues.

When it will not crank, a mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the clutch safety switch, and the key switch.

Key turns fine. Car won't turn on. Won't even crank. Sometimes pushing key further into the ignition switch with a bit of pressure helps. Battery is one year old.

What you are saying is the key switch is worn out, and there is a separate problem with the engine performance.
Either an import shop or the dealer are your options here.

It sounds like a fault in the starter circuit. It could be a defective neutral safety switch, starter solenoid, or possible a defective ignition switch but I doubt it. Can you hear the starter solenoid??? I'm willing to bet the problem is either with starter relay, neutral safety switch, or starter solenoid.
