Question about 2005 Nissan Altima

2 Answers

Car battery died completely and was replaced with a brand new one. Now the CD player does not work at all. No time is displaying, radio does not turn on, no light to the display screen. I was told by a mechanic that I have to go to a Nissan dealership and they simply have to provide me with a code to "re-activate" it, because apparently when you change batteries you're supposed to save the memory first, and in this case the memory was lost. does this in any way sound familiar?

Yes. Radio units have a security measure that shuts them down when power is disconnected. With proof of ownership, your Nissan dealer will provide the proper code and instructions for resetting the unit. If you purchased the car new I suggest that you take it to the dealer where you purchased it, and don't let them charge you for the information/service. If you are not the original owner you may need to reimburse the dealer for time spent in obtaining the information for you.

This does happen to cars w/ theft coded radios. most of the time they will say something like code or locked. double check for a fuse they may have popped when the battery was changed. you may have to go to the dealer for a code. if you have the owners manual..often there is a card in it with the code or a place to write it. maybe it is in there? often the book will also tell you how to use the code. something like using the preset buttton to punch a multi digit code.

My radio can be on even without the key in (01 focus) maybe the radio is directly wired to the battery cable and your wire has been fried or damaged from the 'jumping'. You may want to carefully inspect the little wires attached to your actual battery connectors.

That's my guess.

My battery died now disc player says no discs please help?

Very tricky, my suggestion is to restart the radio again see if it reads the CDs this time. Try removing the radio fuse, where all the other fuses are at. Turn the radio on without the fuse, press and hold a button for a minute just to make sure you drain the electricity from the changer. Then put the fuse back and see what happens. You can also disconnect the negative or ground from the battery wait five minutes and connect it again but this will also restart the car computer.

My car want turn over and new radio install fuse problems

mcdevito75 here, The battery light indicates the charge the alternator is putting back into the battery, a regulator in the alternator allows only a certain amount of electricity to be built up. Sounds like the regulator in the alternator is shorted and draining the battrey, Have your repair shop test the alternator and replace.

Radio/cd player stopped working after battery replaced

Had battery replaced on 2005 DTS and afterward the radio/NAV/On-Star would not work.(Totally dead) The dealer who installed could not locate problem. (No GM dealer in Amador County, CA). I read several forums citing this/similar problems. I checked the three fuses labelled "radio, audio, NAV" by pulling, checking and reinstalling (all three were good). When I then restarted the car, everything was once again working! Poor connection? Corroded contacts? Some mysterious computer glitch? Who knows?

Check your fuses, the radio fuse in your fuse block may have blown when you rehooked up the new battery
