Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My check engine light is on in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. I have 60000 miles on it and I dont know why the check engine light is on. Also whenever I switch from drive to reverse it is very jerky and feels like my transmission is going to go soon.

The check engine light is a general warning that you have a problem that needs attention. Diagnosis of the problem requires a computer scan. You can have this done at most auto shops and parts stores, and many will run the scan at no cost to you. Your transmission problem may be the cause of the light, but even if it's not, the scan may give you some insight into it as well.

sounds like maybe the immobilizer is activating. try using the key to lock and then unlock the driver's door, resetting the alarm system. the lights should be flashing when this happens but you never know. its a shot in the dark.

Good luck

When should the timing belt for a Jeep Cherokee 2004 be changed?

around 60000 miles or 100000 klms is pretty fair. It may last longer but a change will be cheaper than the resultant damage if it breaks. REplace both seals ,all tensioners as well as they do just as much waork as the belt

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

Difference between oil sending unit and the oil pressure switch

Same part...make sure you get one for gauge, not idiot light though. If the engine has any knocking or ticking when pressure drops do not drive it and have a mechanical gauge installed to check actual pressure. Parts often have different names for same item...your driveshaft is actually called a propeller shaft!!!
