Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

I have a 1998 ford explorer and I can't get the fuel line off of the fuel filter? I got that tool that you use but I can't seem to get it to click in to release the fuel line.

Hopefully you are on the front side of the filter the back side has a plastic retainer you pull out the the hose is free to go ( as far as the front the part that is sticking out from the tool that you are using should go towards the front car push it in all the way in then pull back on your fuel line

fuel filter is located in drivers side inner frame by drivers door. You will need special tool to remove part#T90T9550B When installing new filter, make sure arrows point forward towards engine for correct fuel flow.

Right under the drivers side, you will see the fuel line coming from the tank going towards the front of the vehicle and about midway is where the filter is.

Under the vehicle, driver side on the frame. Your going to need a fuel line disconnect tool to remove the fuel filter.

Fuel Filter Replacement on 97 Explorer There's no trick, but you do need a special tool.

1. Remove the safety retainers from the fuel line/filter connections.

2. Install the special tool between the line & filter & slide it toward the filter to release the metal tangs that hold the line to the filter.

3. Slide the line off of the filter.

it is under the vehicle on the passenger side inside the frame . and you have to have a quick release tool to change it. tools are availible at your local parts store. Be sure to release all pressure from the lines before removing the fuel filter.

My son was changing furl filter on 1998 ford explorer, did not have tool, so he broke braided fuel line in front of fuel filter, can't find diagram to see how to replace it.


If he broke the plastic fuel line connector, you can
get that at the auto parts store

If you talking fuel line or hose damage,just remove it
and get at the dealer

Where is the fuel filter located at on a 1998 ford explorer?


For 1998 Ford Truck Explorer 4WD 4.0L EFI SOHC 6cyl the Fuel Filter is located under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, near fuel tank, mounted on frame rail in fuel line .

Have 1998 ford explorer lost power ,started up again died,seems to be lack of fuel also has twin tanks


lossen fuel supply line to the engine/ crank the engine and see if fuel comes out if not then the fuel pump is fried...if pump is ok check for clogged filters
