Either a bad front wheel bearing assembly (has speed sensor inside) or the wiring harness to it at the a arm. repair shop can tell u what side the abs records the codes it sets. then u can decide if u wanna fix it urself or not.btw that noise is the abs motor turning on/activating because the abs computer is confused by the fact its getting a bunk signal from one of the speed sensors(almost always in the front)

Lots of 2001 impalas with this problem, Change the wire from the wheel sensors up to the major loom, there is a bulletin out, but good luck getting a dealer to put the effort into finding it. Gm actually put out a wiring repair package to splice into the main loom and go to the wheel sensors where Gm probably saved some small fraction of a penny by making the wires so small guage wise and costing the car owners big bucks trying to find the cause of the problem of the wires breaking so easily.

Suggest you have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Also do you hear any grinding noise ? I have seen a bad wheel bearing cause this problem . Unwanted ABS activation locks up the wheel . and the lights come on .

The advance trac and awd are not working correctly At start up my 2005 mercury mountaineer has the abs light on , after driving about 50 yards the awd lock light blinks several times then goes to awd...

You current issue is no different than any other
vehicle problem you have had since 1996 when
the OBD2 Systems came into being

You have a MIL Lamp on or check light as some people
call it

You should have checked fore codes immediately within a day
or so to at least know the codes & then googled them to get
some idea of the issues

You know that you have an ABS Braking System issue based on
your owners manual & your abiltiy to recognize Advance Trac etc

Have to have a shop diagnose that system with professional tools

With an AWD issue possible I wouldn't even use it until fixed

The trac control is ussually a bad wheel speed sensor or related
issue

Service engine, abs, trac off

The service engine light does not affect the abs.You most likely have a broken wire in your abs system which is affected by suspension movement.A code reader which does abs codes will tell you which wheel circuit is turning on the abs light. When there is no abs available the track will turn off.

MOST OF THE TIME WHEN TRAC LIGHT AND ABS BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON YOU A HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE ABS AND TRAC SYSTEM.THIS IS A DEALERSHIP FIX. YOU CAN CHECK ABS BRAKE FUSES MAKE SURE IT IS IN TIGHT.AND CHECK FOR FAULTY ABS RELAYS.TO CHECK RELAY LOOK AT RELAY TERMINALS YOU HAVE TERMINAL 86 AND TERMINAL 85.YOU CONNECT TERMINAL 85 TO GROUND AND TERMINAL 86 TO BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL.IF RELAY CLICKS WHEN BATTERY VOLTAGE IS APPLIED.RELAY IS WORKING IF YOU HEAR NO CLICK RELAY NO GOOD NEEDS REPLACING.

The mechanic is probably right...sounds like the car is not getting fuel. Could also be a clogged fuel filter.

As to the Track Off indication, consult your owners manual...but what you're describing, definitely sounds like one of the above - clogged filter/fuel pump.

Have you ever ran the vehicle out of gas? That's the fastest way to pick up junk in the bottom of the fuel tank...which will clog a fuel filter in a hurry.

Good Luck,
Mike...

ABS light goes on and off

Sounds like you have loose brake pad linings.
The traction control measures rotational speed between each rear wheel. If your pad lining momentarily causes one wheel to hesitate your trac control will flash. As the ABS detects braking without the brake pedal being pushed, it will flash.
Check your emergency brake pads. They can fall apart inside the drum/rotor combo on the rear. That is where your sensor is for the ABS.

Service, abs, and trac off lights are on

Usually when the ABS light comes on the circuit is broken and my experience usually leads me to a broken wire on the 03 and older in the system.
90% of the time it is the wire to the left front wheel or the plug in that plugs into the magnet on the left front wheel.
Please check that first. If you find a broken wire repair it and your system will work again.

Abs light flashing sometimes, engine not starting sometimes

Are you absolutely sure it is the ABS light that is flashing?

Also, to confirm descriptions, when you state that when you try to turn it back on you get "nothing, doesn't even crank" are you saying there is no click for the starter relay, no starter engagement, and the engine doesn't spin over?

Your description of the noise when you turn the truck off sounds a bit like the sound a muffled backfire might make. Maybe the truck is running really right, but that wouldn't explain the ABS light flashing. It could explain the Check Engine Light (CEL) flashing as running rich enough to backfire would be an emissions issue which would cause a flashing CEL.
