Question about 1999 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

1999 dodge stratus won't stay running, replaced distributor, fuel filter and fuel pump. Can hear the fuel pump build pressure and shut off. Start the engine and it will start but shut off as soon as the fuel is used. The fuel pump will not operate until the key is cycled. What controls the pump after initial startup?

check for codes in the PCM if none the I would check fuel pressure and volume. the volume should be about 1 pint in 15 seconds. the fuel pressure should be 35lbs, continually check pressure until the car dies as sometimes a bad fuel pump won`t show up immediately. also change the fuel filter.

My 1999 dodge avenger is showing codes p0171 p0174 and p0123. i have replaced TPS and my car will turn over but not start. it will start momentarilly for about 2 seconds then shut off. is there a way

turn key on and start car,let it die and check for fuel pressure ,find fuel line and remove cap that looks like valve stem for tire, press neddle un derneth ,probly have no fuel,if so repace fuel filter and pump.try to spray brake cleane in throttle body after it dies if it will run on brake kleen you have no fuel, replace pump and filter.

I have a 97 dodge stratus. It won't start. Tried

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out

2005 Dodge Stratus 2.4L,runs good until you start to drive it, then it bogs down and falls on its face

could be clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure due to a weak pump or fuel pressure regulator.

How do I check fuel pump w/o dropping tank on 97 stratus

filter ? or the new fuel eats the line off the pump in the tank. if you hear the pump in the taank running there is a good chance it's the pump lines in the tank. there might be a access door under the seat or trunk that will allow you to service it without removing the tank = no fun.. some dodge vehicles the only filter they have is in the tank ! krazy !!

I replaced the fuel pump and filter in a 99 dodge stratus and it still wont start what can I try to fix it?

Hi,
When you turn the key to "on" (not to crank), listen to determine if you can hear the fuel pump. If you can't hear, you might have someone outside the car and near the gas tank, listen closely as you do this. It's possible the pump isn't working... though you replaced it.
If you're getting fuel, try to determine if you're getting spark at the plugs.
Hope this helps... a little.

Do you hear the pump run, even just turning the key on and off? I assume no fuel, you mean it won't start. What was your original problem and who changed the pump and why. eg. What test was done before replacing it?
