Common issue with the 2006's.

Try pressing harder on the brake as you shift to park. Also try squeezing the shifter button more firmly.

Cant remember the exact issue, but i took mine into Ford dealership and they fixed the issue.

I have a 1997 Ford explorer, it won't go in park

The shift linkage has come off ether at the base of the steering column or at the transmission. If all is in tack then you might have to drop the trans. pan and look at the linkage in there.

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer and my truck won't shift into park I litterally have to hold the brake all the way down forit toshift

I think this is a safety feature built in to the car. I've had several cars that won't shift unless the brake is pressed.

98 ford explorer park lights won't go off

This is usually a light switch issue. If you have the pull out knob- make sure the nut that holds the switch in place is tight. If the nut is tight, replace the switch as a first step.

There is a much lesser chance the signal switch failed and it is actually brake light power lighting them.

2006 explorer. whencar put in reverse it won't move, when it does, it will jump and make a loud clanking sound

three things to check

bad Universal Joint,
with the vehicle in park and the parking brake firmly set get under the vehicle and check for excessive play at either end of the driveshaft.

bad transmission mount
get a helper, have them start the vehicle and with the parking brake firmly set and the brake pedal depressed put it in reverse (DO NOT BE UNDER VEHICLE AND STAY CLEAR OF TIRES) , watch the driveshaft and transmission for movement.

bad motor mount
open the hood, have the helper once again start the engine and put the vehicle in reverse with the parking brake set and the brake pedal depressed, watch for excessive engine movement.
