Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

The driver's side window is stuck in the down position. The window motor runs, but it sounds like gears are all stripped out. Any suggestions for repair

Yeah. unfortunately you will need to remove the door panel and take a look inside the door itself. i'd be willing to be the power window regulator is at fault here and the cable has come off which is holding the window to the bottom. If you remove the regulator then you will need to hold the window up in place with some tape wrapped around the top of the door, or suction cups. one the new regulator is installed then you will need to lower the window to the level of the regulator to install bolts. THESE BOLTS ONLY NEED TO BE SNUG AND NOT TIGHT!!!!! good luck

Window problems

the window motor itself has a plastic gear at the end which drives the mechanics of the window system. if you hear this grinding noise, chances are that this gear is stripped. unfortunately, this means replacing components like a motor, regulator assembly or both. the problem as you described will only get worse if not handled. it could leave you in a situation where you dont have a window at all...

Driver's side window inoperable(doesn't go up or down, though it does sound as though a motor does run. Window marginally moves. I have had to manually pull the window up to close.

hello first of all

Well there are only two things that can cause this one is the regulator gears are stripped thats the gear that the motor turns to lift and lower window. Or at the bottom of the glass window when you remove the door panel there is a little plastic tab that goes thru a drilled hole in the glass that may be broken to it common for the plastic to become brittle and break.

Drivers side pwr window not working, motor runs but window will not move, in up position

If the motor moves then either the gears are stripped in the regulator or the window is off track. More then likely its the motor assembly which has the gears in it. Some older fords offer a gear rebuild kit for the window motors or you can buy the motor with the gear assembly for about 30$

Drivers side power window is stuck. I here grinding when I try to make it go up or down.

If you remove your door panel, and look at the guts of the window mechanism, you'll find a motor that should move the window up and down. The gear on the motor is probably either stripped, displaced, or the window regulator (the other half of the system)'s gear teeth are similarly damaged/displaced.

My rear passanger side window wll not go down.

Sounds like the plastic gears on the window motor have wore out and may be stripped or the window is partially off track.

Window stuck down on 1994 ford explorer

while holding the switch in the up position, bang on the middle part of the door panel, if the motor is stuck then this will usually unstick it. but if motor is running then you will need a new window regulator.
