SOURCE: Total Amount of AC PAG oil needed for a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport

Do you have the old compessor? Drain out what is in there and use that amount as a guide + 1 oz. There is no ratio per se. As long as you are close without being crazy low (none) or crazy high (over flowing), you're good.

SOURCE: Replaced a/c compressor on 1994 chevrolet truck

unless you can verify what the pressures are you will need to have a shop check it for you. Low pressure will give the symptoms you stated. Also if you did not vacuum all the air out before you added the stuff then a shop will have to perform a a vac and recharge. Plan on paying the piper if you did not do this yet. You can only accurately charge a system after a vacuum has been put on the system and then held there for a time to see if the vacuum stays.

SOURCE: how many pounds of r134 and how much oil ozs.

somewhere around 1.6 pounds (1lb.14ounces) of R134a if system is evacuated and 3 ounces of oil with new compressor.
keep pressure on the low side around 34-37psi & it should blow snow. Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.

  • Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
  • Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI –
  • Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.
DIY recharge kit:
With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

This car uses R12, it is no longer available, you must convert it to R134, this requires the compressor and reciever dryer be replaced and the system flushed out and the new PAG R134 refrigerant oil be added and new charging port kits installed. Is that car worth this effort?

Hi FOlks. We are trying to find out how much AC oil to put into the new AC compressor? Can someone advise? Thanks. Jim & Carolyn

5.1 oz. and use PAG oil ONLY!!! Get at the local parts house. Be sure to replace receiver dryer when replacing AC compressor. Vacuum system, add oil, charge with R134. WARNING: Be sure to connect to low side!!! Hard to mess up. Low side is the small port, high side is large port.

What type of freon is in a 1994 GMC Suburban

There should be a lable underhood.but probably had R-12,Best to go ahead and convert to R134A.Recommend replace reciever drier ,buy conversion fittings from parts house for 134A,remove compressor turn upside down and rotate clutch by hand to get as much oil out as you can, then pour in aprox 4 oz pag oil.Reinstall, change orfice tube the will need aprox 12 oz R134A to replace 16oz R-12.Buy R134A at walmart cheaper than all parts houses by at least $2.00 a can.Cgarge till low side preasure at aprox 40 to 45 psi and gigh side 200 to 250 psi.Should cool fine.
