Hi,

Ok firstly this model of vehicle only has one EGR as all vehicles do.
The other solenoid which is facing it is not and EGR solenoid, it is the Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid.

So what the dealer has told you is not correct, there are probably 2 types of EGR valves so this is what you need to know.
So if you just give the Mitsubishi dealer the VIN number of your vehicle they should be able to give you the exact ERG valve to replace.

The options are:
1 - for the 6G72 which is the 3.0 liter
2 - for the 6G74 which is the 3.5 liter

I hope this has helped let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Jason

Engine check lite comes on Code 401 Changed EGR valve and EGR Lite comes back on drive about 5 miles

Sounds like to me you have a faulty EGR vacuum solenoid which regulates the vacuum pressure sent to the EGR valve.

Can only find 1 bolt to remove the starter in my 2001 mitsubishi montero sport. where are both bolts?

It's there you just need to get at the right angle to see it, the bolt you most likely can't see if the one between the starter body and the starter solenoid on top. See picture below.

The Cat code could have cleared itself if the computer doesn't detect a problem anymore. Fix the EGR problem as it is still active.
