Look under truck at drivers side door for the fuel lines. they will go into filter there and back out of filter there.you're looking for a round canister, you'll need to release the pressure by removing the gas acp also.there will be a plastic clip on both sides of the filter holding the fuel lines into the filter. pull those clips out with needle nose pliers, install the filter with the flow towards the front of motor, reinstall those clips unless new ones came with the new filter.keep in mind that you are under the truck looking up at filter, eye protection is a must!!!! hope this helps!!

SOURCE: camshaft timing mark crankshaft timing mark

Belt covers need to be on. Timing mark on crankshaft (while on compression stroke) should line up with TDC mark on cover. then Camshaft mark, needs to line up by looking through access hole of cover, and align mark on cam sprocket with pointer on inside of belt cover.

Why is my 1987 ford ranger acking iike its loosing fule pressurs win diving

It may BE losing fuel pressure, Robert. Check the fuel pressure and flow rate at the fuel rail. Filter, plugs, and cap have nothing to do with fuel pressure - your fuel pump and pressure regulator are the only things that can change fuel pressure very much.

What would make my 1987 ford ranger run good at start , go for 5 to ten miles and loose all power . i have already replaced fuel filter

check for codes this may help if their is one, some codes will set without turning on the check engines light.have the fuel pressure checked with a gage as a bad fuel pump will act this way. have the tps(throttle position sensor) checked for voltage dropouts as you move the throttle. the catalytic converter could be plugging up and need replacing. if you have an ignition problem usually a miss will be noticed. on other thing I can think of is possibly a transmission problem, I can only recall one that I`ve run across that this was the cause.

Does the 1987 4x4 ford ranger with the 2.9 v6 have one or two fuel pumps?

It has 2, one in the the tank and another inline between the tank and engine. Little tip: if your not getting fuel to the engine try replacing the filter first. it's a lot easier and less expensive and most likely where the problem is. I have an 1988 Ranger that clogs the filter almost every time I run the tank dry.

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 2wd 2.9 liter. I have had this truck for a little over a year. the truck only has 81,000 miles on it but it has this sputter out and dieing problem. When I first started driving...

I think that you need to be more specific when you say that you have changed everything... Because i'm sure that there is MUCH more that has to do with this problem then you may think.... Has the fuel pump fuel pump float pressure regulator and filter been changed out. Also has the crank sensor been changed out. What you the cam sensor?

1989 Ford Ranger 2.9 liter 4x4 Runs Horrible

change fuel filter. add can of SEAFOAM(parts house) to fuel. It sounds like the beginning of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). corn liquor substance, water, and clogging. all caused by ethanol fuel.
