Yes, it's in the tank. Whether to buy the hanger depends on whether your fuel gauge works properly. If the gauge doesn't work right, and your gauge sender (also in the tank) is bad, then it may be more economical to buy the whole in-tank assembly with pump, sender, and hanger. If the pump failure was caused by corrosion, be sure to clean out the tank well, and maybe even replace the tank! Good luck!

How to install a fuel pump in a 1989 Mercury Grand

Should take you the better part of a weekend afternoon:
  1. Depressurize the fuel system, either by removing the fuse for the fuel pump or by disconnecting the plug from the Inertia Switch, then start the vehicle and let it run until it dies (usually it will run for less than three seconds before the fuel pressure drops to 0). I also recommend draining as much of the fuel from the tank as possible, and use that fuel in your lawn equipment (do not put it back into the vehicle).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery connector.
  3. Support the fuel tank with a hydraulic jack, and remove the two nuts securing the fuel tank straps. Once the tank is loose, lower the tank carefully.
  4. When they are visible, remove the fuel line, the return line, the vapor line, and the electrical connectors to the fuel level sending unit and the fuel pump.
  5. Remove the tank completely once all connections are disconnected.
  7. Remove retaining ring from the "hanger assembly," and remove the fuel pump hanger assembly from the tank. The fuel pump can then be removed from the fuel assembly.
  8. Once you remove the hanger assembly, look at the intake screen (also known as the "fuel sock). If it has significant rust in it, DO NOT WASTE TIME - REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK (you can find them online for about $110). Don't waste time replacing fuel system components if your fuel tank is rusted!!
  9. BE SURE TO REPLACE THE INTAKE STRAINER (fuel sock), even if you do nothing else.
  10. Reverse procedure to reassemble. You may need to get a new "locking ring" for the hanger assembly (cheap)
  11. Reconnect everything, and hoist the tank back into place. Use NEW FUEL (start with about 5 gallons).
  12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  13. To repressurize the fuel system, turn the key from OFF to ON, count to five, turn the key back OFF, count to five again, then immediately do the same thing three more times. The fourth time, you should be able to START the vehicle.

How do you remove the fuel pump on a 1990 Chevy Lumina APV?

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. Drive off or siphon out as much gas as you can. You will need to remove the filler hose. Drop the tank and remove the fuel lines on the top of the tank, Turn the ring counter clock wise that holds the siphon and pump in. Once the ring is loose, lift the the siphon and pump assembly out of the tank. The pump is on the bottom of the siphon. Replace, then reverse the process.

Integra was sputtering like it was running out of gas. Just now wont idle. If not held above RPM's it dies. When it died, it will turn over but doesnt seem to get gas going. Thinking its the fuel pump....

As the fuel train which supplies the injectors w/ the needed gas...Im quite sure that if you purge the fuel train of air your problem will cease.hope this helps ."Reno"

How to replace the fuel pump on 1990 pontiac transport

This work is dangerous and needs to be done out of harms way. ( not in your house or near anything esle valuble that might burn up.) The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank and the tank has to be removed to get it away from the car to remove the pump from the tank. Raise the vehical on a lift and place a transmission jack under the tank. Remove any fuel with your draining equipment and sucure the fuel away from the car to be reinstalled later. Act like thiers fuel in the tank anyway ( thier is) and proceed with care. remmove the bolts theat hod the straps that hold the tank in lower the tank with the jack till you have enought room to get to the lines to disconnected them. You'll need fuel line sapartor tools as the lines snap together and use saparoater tools to disconnect them. unclamp and pull the fuel filler hoses from the tank and note if thier bad or not as they should be replaced if damaged, or rotted. lower the tank and remove from the car. Take the tank out side and away from your building or other cars, and remove the ciclular ring that retains the fuel pumps hanger and gauge assembly. With the ring removed the gauge and pump hanger can be lifter from th tank. It'll have fuel in it and you might set it in a bucket or something to keep fuel from getting all over. Depending on what they sell you at the store you'll either be changing the pump that's in this hanger or changing the whole hanger assembly. They cost more but they have new wires and the gas gauge too and as the pump fails it bruns these parts up too and it's better and safter to change the whole thing. Install the new unit as you removed the old one and you should clean the tank out good if you notice any sign that it's not clean. ( this is the reason for failure of the pump) Miles, or habitally running low on fuel will make the pump fail too.

Fuel pump is bad. need to replace it. do i need an eletcric fuel pump or a regular fuel pump..i hve a 2002 chrysler sebring conv. LX 2.7L

All vehicles with fuel injection use a high-pressure pump mounted inside the gas tank. This is virtually all vehicles built since about 1990. I don't know about this particular vehicle, some have an access panel above the tank that allows you to remove the pump without dropping the tank, others don't. Dropping a nearly full tank of gas is no easy task. Try asking your auto parts store or the Chrysler parts counter if this car has such an access panel.

By the way, the pump is immersed in the fuel, and uses the fuel to cool the pump. Never let your tank get below 1/4 full to reduce overheating of the pump, which shortens its life. Occasionally is OK, but running below 1/4 tank on a regular basis will cut the life of the pump significantly.

How do I replace the feul pump on a 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX 3.8 V6.

Start this job by running the car nearly out of gas if possible. You need the car lifted at least on the side the tank is on. I use ramps on the front and rear tire on that side only. The tank is held up with a couple of straps. The fuel filler hose will be attached with a clamp that needs to be loosened. The fuel pump assembly is located on the top of the tank. You'll need to disconnect an electrical connection which will allow you to completely drop the tank. Once you've gotten this far the pump assembly usually just has to be turned as it is threaded into the tank. A replacement should be about $150 or so.

I have a 1990 honda civic hatchback si with an 89 ZC DOHC black top engine.. the rear motor mount is cracked and each time i down shift the engine raddles.. how do i change out the mount? and if possible.....

You will need something to lift the engine so that you can take the pressure off of the mount. It sounds like your fuel pump may be wearing out and it is not responding like it should...The pump on the gas tank should be located on the top of the tank....Under the back seat....
