Question about Ford Bronco

3 Answers

Hi my name is Heath. I have a 1990 Ford Bronco. The other day after i drove it home, I pulled in the driveway and turned the engine off. I got out and heard a hiss so i opened up the hood and I saw brown colored radiator fluid boiling over from under the radiator cap. I didn't do anything that day. the next day I drove it to work keeping a close eye on the dashboard to see how hot my engine was. When I finally got to work it was all the way on "H" for hot and once again the radiator fluid boilded over and leaked out. what should i do? Do i need a flush or a new thermostat? The radiator hose is hot after driving by the way.

You most definetly have a coolant issue..the color of coolant should be green...so the fact of the color being brown means it has lost its engine protection qualieiteis so to speak, and boiling at a much lower temperature........the danger of leaving it until this point is that brown, means it has thickened up and has the ability to start to clog up the small passages inside the engine.....

MY definite and immediate recommendation is to either DIY or take to radiator specialist, or mechaince and have coolant sytem completely flushed out (reverse flushed, if possible), and thermostat replaced, and all hoses checked.......

Good luck and I hope this helps...

If the coolant is brown you need to drain & flush the system completely. Once all dirty fluid has been removed replace it with new coolant and follow the dulution instructions on the container. If you saw "fluid boiling over from under the radiator cap" meaning coming from under the cap and not from the overflow hose replace the cap with a new one of the proper pressure rating for your engine.

A flush and a thermostat is never a bad idea, but it sound like your radiator cap is worn out, not holding pressure, replace it, should have a 16 lbs rating radiator cap.

You'll have to check for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure next time it quits.
Could be ignition module, a relay, fuel vapor lock, or a list of other things.

There could be a problem with the fluid. Either you need to add or you need to have it replaced. As you lift you foot off the gas, more effort is needed by the power steering motor to turn the engine there may not be enough hydraulic pressure to turn the wheels.

I recently bought a 1991 Ford Bronco to fix up. I got it running, and shortly after it died while I was pulling into a parking lot at work. It wasn't starting. Had the battery tested and it was fine....

That sounds like a bad ignition switch, which is located in the steering column on the right hand side, hope this helps, should fix both problems.

1996 Ford Bronco Turning on air conditioner turns off motor

From this year bronco, I would suspect that the A/C compressor is faulty. The smoke is from the fan belt slipping because the A/C compressor is locked or extremely hard to turn. The squeal is the same thing.

The only fix I know is to take out the old A/C compressor and replace with an new unit or a used one from a junk yard. You will then need to take the car in to a service station to get the system vacuum for 10 minutes under about 10 psi pressure. Then you fill with new refrigerant and you should be good to go. The filling part is hard to do unless you have some equipment, it's 30 minutes at a shop. I suggest the shop.

Check for timing gear problems. They have plastic teeth on the cam shaft gear which will shatter causing it to jump time.
