A/C blows hot air - no power getting to clutch. How can we fix it?

Check for power at the clutch cycling switch. The switch could be bad. Another possibility is that the refrigerant is low. The compressor will not run if there is not enough refrigerant.

Check out first the drive belt if it is loose, then the electrical connection if it is loose or corroded. If that does not solve it, check the clutch assembly if it is working. Worse case could be a problem with the A/C motor.

Make sure that the tubing around the accumulator is getting cold.
If not, the refrigerant may not be charged up.
Otherwise, the vacuum motor for selecting cold air may be not working correctly causing heated air from the heater core to be routed to the interior of the car.

Do you hear the vacuum motors working when adjusting the heat to cold selector? or changing the thermostat temperature if so equipped?

have you tried charging the ac system? most ac compressors have a pressure switch that will not allow the relay to engage the clutch if the coolant pressure is low. $15 can of r134a and maybe a $20 Haynes manual is well worth the price difference, eh?

Does the compressor kick in when you turn it on?(if not it could be the a/c switch or the power to it, the a/c clutch wire connection, the clutch itself, or it's low on freon) You should hear the clutch kick in when you turn the a/c on. Low freon will also cause the clutch to not kick in. Remove the low-pressure switch plug and jump it with a piece of electrical wire. If the clutch kicks in, you just need to add some freon. Put the plug back where it was after you remove the jumper wire.
Is the belt on and adjusted to the right tension? If the belt is loose it won't cool as good as it should.
Check the freon in the system with a gage. If it's low, add some to the right amount and see if it cools. If it is overcharged, it will blow hot air, too.
The heater control valve slider should be all the way to the left so hot water isn't allowed to circulate through the heater core which would also make it blow hot air out the a/c ducts.
Good luck, they can be a pain, but with careful, step by step troubleshooting it can be fixed. There is plenty of information about a/c online to help you out. Try googling in: auto ac troubleshooting tips for more info. garcuda

Arcondition blows hot air, freon in the blue and clutch on compressor engage


Make sure your blend door is closing all the way and that the actuator actually works.

Air Conditioner


Someone will need to find out if the compressor clutch is failing, or if it is loosing power due to a pressure switch or other problem.
A faulty relay or switch could get hot and switch off power to the compressor.

A local garage mechanic says the clutch has stopped working on ac that is why it blows hot air instead of cool says it will cost $900. to fix cause I have to buy the whole ac unit does this sound correct?...

2008 honda pilot a/c is not blowing cold air, blows hot air. bought truck in 2007.


the most common problem with honda and acura is the magnetic clutch failure on the compressor , test to see if you are getting power to the clutch assembly with the car runningand the A/C on max if you have power the compressure clutch is bad if you don't ck the compressure fuse and or the clutch relay.

Air conditioning not working on dodge intrepid. added freon. still blowing out HOT AIR. what do i do now?


I have 2 ideas.

Idea 1: The clutch in your ac compressor could be out.

Idea 2: The ac compressor isn't getting any power. Use test lights on the connectors to the ac compressor to make sure it is getting power. (Test this before trying to change the ac compressor. It is way cheaper to fix a connection than to change the compressor.)

NOTE: ac compressor clutch is not available seperately for this car at discount auto parts stores.

My 2002 Expedition air conditioner will sometimes blow hot air and others cold air


I would check the following possibilities:
1. Is compressor clutch working? - You need to do this when the ac is blowing hot air only - locate compressor drive pulley on engine - rubber belt wraps around it. Start engine and set to max ac. When the ac is blowing hot air, look at the center of the compressor drive pulley using a good flash light - watch it for a while, it should be spinning with the pulley - this means the compressor is engaged. If not, the compressor is not engaged. If your ac is blowing hot air, then the compressor should be engaged and running (trying to cool). If it is not engaged, then your compressor clutch is probably going out. Could be low voltage to clutch, but more likely the clutch is worn out and only working some of the time. Note: if working normally, the compressor clutch will engage and disengage in cycles- but the air should always be cold. If clutch is bad, compressor would need to be replaced (sold as one unit). This is tricky to diagnose and could take some time - you need to do it when ac is blowing hot air but set to max cooling.

2. Low on refrigerant or refrigerant has moisture in it? If your ac blows cold initially after being off for a while, then heats up, and continues to regularly cycle back and forth between hot and cool air, then the system may be low on refrigerant or the refrigerant may have moisture in it that is freezing and restricting refrigerant flow. An a/c shop can check refrigerant level and even replace refrigerant if moisture is suspected.

Could be other issues, but I would start with these.

1999 Dodge Dakota heater does not blow hot air.


It is most likely a closed or mostly closed thermostat, cheap fix and very common.

when that happens it is usually because the compressor's a/c clutch kicks out. and doesn't com back on it could either be that the a'c clutch relay is work or you system might be undercharge. if the fuse is,nt blown it's one of those that are the problem. the pressure on the lowside should be 35 psi and on the highside 120-150 psi for a 134a system, also i would power wash the condennsor coil which is located on the front of the radiator. restricted airflow will often times cause the coil to freeze up and and you will get hot air as well. dirt,bugs and debrie will block up the coils and fins on the condenssor.........please rate this solution.........thanks
