Well, the most common problem with alternators that I have had in my life has been with alternators that were not lifetime warrantied. If you buy a 1 year warranted alternator, it's likely that the parts inside are inferior to the lifetime warrantied alternators in the aftermarket stores such as Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc.

So, I would recommend that you make sure that you buy a lifetime warrantied part and that should last a very long time, several years in my case per car that I purchased the alternator for.

This also applies to starter motors and other parts for your car.

If you buy a lifetime warrantied alternator and it still goes bad, then there's something in the usage of it, like high miles or lots of accessories being used all of the operational time, that is causing the brushes to wear out prematurely.

More than likely you have a new bad alternator. Sorry to say, but many times I may go through 2 or 3 alternators before finding a good one. Have the new alternator tested.

Try replacing the "convinence control module" and bad board can cause all elec issues explained and also cause engine to cut out and other things but that is where I would start, hope this helps-

Replaced altornator 3 times and wire to battery but still won't charge.

if you replaced alternator 3 times , have you had your battery tested ? if battery is bad usually that will cause alternator to keep going bad . try having battery tested . might just need a battery

Hi. Can someone tell me what would cause the indicator lights for both my brakes and battery to come on. My son is in the middle of driving from Florida to NJ tonight and I don't know if this is a problem...

It is probably a bad alternator. The alternator in my 2001 outback 3.0 went out completely last year and when I bought a replacement remanufactured one both of these lights would come on periodically. I went back to Pep Boys several times until they finally exchanged it with a new one and the problem went away. I never broke down or had the car not start while this was happening though. I would recommend paying the $400+ dollars for the subaru original alternator over the $125 Remanufactured though. It could save you much more in the long run as I think the bad alternator has had other ill effects on my car's electrical system.

Car died and will not restart

Have you had your Battery, starter and alternator checked? if starter or alternator bad will drain battery. If battery is bad will damage alternator over period of time. If not changed. Also check your battery cables, make sure your +/- is without corrosion. Possible voltage regulator.Hope this helps..
