You check with a test light all the connectors, the test light will light up when there is voltage present on that terminal,so check the input ,before you turn it on,then check the output after you turn it on,this is the best way to tell if the out put is working, and there is voltage getting to the switch. If this was at all helpful, please rate thank you.

Want it the easy way????
Get behind the headlight assembly remove the electrical connector to the headlight bulbs, may as well test both sides.... pick up a 12 volt DC test ligh,t attach the pin end into the power conector of the headlight plug and ground the "alligator" clip to a good known ground....turn on the high and low beams at the headlight switch....test light should light up on either high or low depending on which contact you are testing, if it lights up the switch is fine you will need a set of Halogen bulbs....be sure to NOT touch the glass bulb lenses with your hands as the oils on your fingers will prematurely burn out the bulbs in half there life span because they get so hot.
There are about three different brightness bulbs to buy let the auto parts person help you in this I chose the mid range its a step above factory brightness but better for night vision...the real hot ones are the "blue" so to speak bulbs... they are good but do blind on coming cars, buy em in two packs you save a bundle of cash that way and believe me if one is bad and the other is lit...you can rest assure the other one will be burning out real soon after the new one is installed, so why wait and be inconvienenced do it while you are replacing the one thats bad.

    Peplace the headlight switch.

Plug it back in with the key in run position and the alarm off, test for current coming in and out of the switch at the switch.... it is that easy!!

You did the hard part by removing it....there are no fuses to control the headlights.

Sorry I stand corrected I would like you to read the blogs below...I think you will find it interesting if nothing else:

ON PRIOR OCCASIONS, VEHICLE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT LOSS OF INTERIOR LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. RECENTLY,EXPERIENCED LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS ON 92 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS DURING TRIP OVER THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD THE LIGHTS NOT CAME BACK ON AFTER I TURNED THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. IN AN ATTEMPT TO REPLACE WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A FAULTY HEADLIGHT SWITCH, I DISCOVERED A WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH SHOWS INDICATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURES DUE TO BURNING AND MELTING. SIMILAR TO RECALL ON THE FORD CONTOUR. (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 99V103000 ). I PLAN TO CONTACT FORD AND SEE IF THEY WILL REPLACE FOR FREE AND OR GIVE ME THE PART NUMBER OF THE HARNESS CONNECTOR PART SO THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO REPLACE. I PLAN ON KEEPING BOTH THE FAULTY CONNECTOR AND THE ORIGINAL SWITCH IN THE HOPE THAT IT WILL BE OF BENEFIT TO UNDERSTAND THE FAILURE MECHANISMS OF THE EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, AND PARKING LIGHTS WERE NOT LIT EVEN THOUGH THE HEADLIGHTS BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WERE WORKING PROPERLY. THE FUSE FOR THAT CIRCUIT WAS CHECKED AND IT WAS NOT BLOWN. THE DASHBOARD WAS DISASSEMBLED FOR REMOVAL OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE WIRE TO THE TAIL LAMP/PARKING LAMP/INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD BECOME HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE WIRE ITSELF. THE CONNECTORS FOR THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ARE EN-BLOCK AND CONSIST OF 7 CONNECTORS IN ONE BLOCK AND 3 CONNECTORS IN A SEPARATE BLOCK. THE 7 CONNECTOR BLOCK HAD BURNT PLASTIC IN THE AREA OF THE TAIL LIGHT WIRE, AND THE 3 CONNECTOR BLOCK WAS WARPED FROM THE HEAT. THIS IS A 1992 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS THAT WAS BUILT IN MAY OF 1991. REPAIRS ARE AWAITING SUITABLE REPLACEMENT PARTS.

I have 1992 Mercury Sable the turn signals and the flashers do not work

I had this happen to my 1998 Grand Marquis. The turn signals and flashers went thru the same switch on the steering column. I took a can of electrical spray cleaner and sprayed the switch. Then I pushed the switch on and off real fast and then pounded on the steering column near the switch. I did this several times until the corrosion came off the switch. They have both worked ever since.

If the head gasket is blown you will have either oil in the antifreeze, antifreeze in the oil or white steam out the exhaust and your antifreeze level will be low all the time.sounds like you may have a clogged catalitic converter to me.

Odometer stuck speedometer works ok 1992 mercury grand marquis

The only fix is to replace the speedo head. I had a 92 crown vic (same as marquis) and the speeometer shop could not repair it. So, i had to replace it. They give you a sticker to write the present mileage down for reference, and afix it to the drivers door jam.
