Question about 2004 Chrysler Sebring

My sebring is leaking coolant from the housing (top of the engine),this compartment housing is manufacturer in plastic material & and is not reparable in conventional way.,please can you drive me in a proper way for me to fix this problem PD(mech.are.very expensive

More then likely thermostat housing, is the radiator cap, just below it, if it is that's what it is, most auto part will have this, remove small bolts that hold it in place, and install new one and top of with coolant.

Coolant leaks from front of engine compartment on 1989 Ford F-150


have a coolant pressure test done on the system and find the leaks. If it is an old radiator with plastic tanks then the tanks may be split (common) -check radiator hoses for splits and radiator cores for leaks. If the hose is enlarged past the clamp replace it as it is about to burst anyway check water pump and check all points where hoses are clamped onto aluminium housings as they corrode under the hoses.

How to replace Thermostat on 2006 Town & Country Van ?


drain coolant system half way until coolant below thermostat.to locate thermostat follow upper radiator hose to engine.just remove both thermostat housing two bolts then clean all traces of old gasket material. be sure to have new thermostat gasket and gasket sealer on hand.make sure both thermostat housing and engine block clean dont have any traces of old gasket material if so you will have coolant leak.but besure to put gasket sealer both sides thermostat gasket just need thin layer RTV silicone.you can buy can of gasket remove to help remove old gasket material. try not to damage thermostat housing surface or engine surface with scraper deep scratches cuts in either surfaces will cause coolant leak be careful.

How to change the thermostat


Hi, Follow the top rad hose and at the end of that is the thermostat. Undo the two bolts and there it is.
But first you will have to drain some fluid out to make it easier to access. Good luck.

My mini is using alot of coolant we think the thermostat is blocked, its pressuerising it back through the resevoir


Most common coolant leak is from the thermostat housing seal. Replace seal or housing and bleed properly.
Loosen plastic bleed screw on pipe above fan belt. Fill coolant via pressure cap ( right had side of engine....not expansion bottle) tighten once coolant free of air is seen. Run engine, loosen other plastic bleed screw on heater hose ( towards bulkhead ) and retighten once coolant runs free of air. Top up via cap again, run engine at 2500 rpm for 3 minutes with heater on ...should be very warm now. Once cool, check level and top up as required.

How do i change a thermostat on a 1996 mercury sable and whre is it located


Thermostat-follow the upper radiator thick hose to the thermostatic housing. Removal & Installation 3.0L (2V) To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the three thermostat housing bolts.
  4. Remove the thermostat O-ring seal.
  5. Inspect and clean the sealing surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Install thermostat and o-ring seal.
  2. Install thermostat housing bolts; torque to 9 lb-ft (12 Nm).
  3. Refill cooling system.
  4. Warm-up vehicle and check for leaks.
  5. Top off cooling system.
3.0L (4V) To Remove:
  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet adapter.
  3. Remove the bolts, the water outlet adapter and thermostat. Discard the O-ring seal.
To Install:
  1. Clean the sealing surfaces.
  2. Install the thermostat with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  3. Refill the cooling system.
  4. Warm-up the vehicle and check for leaks.
  5. Top off the cooling system.
3.4L (SHO) To Remove:
  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Remove battery.
  3. Remove power distribution box.
  4. Remove battery tray.
  5. Disconnect upper radiator hose and place it out of the way.
  6. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet connection.
  7. Remove the two mounting bolts and remove the water inlet connection.
  8. Remove the O-ring seal and thermostat from the water pump.
  9. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
To Install:
  1. If necessary, install a new O-ring on the inlet connection.
  2. Install the thermostat in the water pump and install the inlet housing. Tighten the bolts to 71-106 lb-in (8-12 Nm).
  3. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water inlet connection.
  4. Install the upper radiator hose.
  5. Install battery tray.
  6. Install the power distribution box.
  7. Install the battery.
  8. Refill the engine with coolant.
  9. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens. Check for leaks.
  10. Stop the engine. Allow the engine to cool and top off degas bottle as required to maintain minimum cold fill level.

Bad thermostat on 2004 F350 Diesel 6.0


Drain the coolant out and remove the thermostat housing from the top of the engine - where the top radiator hose meets the domed cover on the top of the engine. Note how the thermostat is situated and replace the new one facing the same way. You will need to remove all of the old gasket material using a plastic scraper so you don't scar the metal and create a leak. Make sure the gasket pieces don't fall into the engine opening. (stuff an old rag in the hole). The parts store will tell you how to put the new gasket in and whether you should use RTV sealant or not. If you need RTV, use just a little. Put the gasket and thermostat in, put the housing over them and tighten the bolts by cinching one then the other until they begin to get tight. You are working with pot metal and aluminum so don't get too aggressive in making them tight. Replace the top hose if you disconnected it, refill with 50/50 coolant and antifreeze and run the engine to normal operating temp and look for leaks. If you find one, let the engine cool and try tightening the bolts a bit more. Make sure that the hose clamp is good and tight too.

Replace the water outlet housing. Most likely not covered, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Anti-freeze leak


If it's leaking at the top of the engine down. Look at the top of the engine at the front and you'll see a bleeder valve on top a black housing. These housings like to come apart at the glued seams. If it's leaking at the lower part of the engine towards the front, it could be your water pump leaking. Check your oil and if you see the color of the oil looking like chocolate milk, your water pump needs replaced, the oil will need changing as well. Do a coolant system pressure test and see if your hoses somewhere are leaking. Also check for your surge tank leaking. This is the tank that you put coolant into.
