Question about 2000 Audi A6
There is no dipstick for the transmission to check level, it is a sealed transmission as are all VW's and Audi's made since the middle 90's, the dealer has a special tool to check level through a plug on the trans case, next the problem you have could be the transfer case needs a fluid change, the symptom you have sounds like worn out fluid (the friction modifiers wears out and the internal clutches chatter), the fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles in the transmission and the transfer case
