You should check the alternator voltage. With the car running, it should be 14-15 VDC. Anything less and alternator is bad. If you don't have a voltmeter, take the alternator off and have it tested at parts store.

Ok i have 05 ford f350 super duty the alternater went out on it replaced it and had the batterys checked on it they are good but the battery light is still on in the truck about 5 min after you start it...

One thing that I would check is the connector that plugs into the alternator. I have seen these connectors go bad and not allow the alternator to charge. Check for battery voltage at the post on the back of the alternator too

Does it crank over? The battery you unhooked? It was one of the coach batteries right? It has a single battery for the engine and two for the coach?

change or charge the battery and make sure you install the correct alternator capable of supplying the correct amps your car needs otherwise it wont charge correctly/ check your electrical wiring it must be grounded somewhere or the connection is incorrect thats why ur battery drains...

Left my hazzard lights on for 8 hours, now my battery wont hold a charge and it keeps dying.

"maintainence free" type batteries can only be deep discharged a few times .. the kind where you have to add water will withstand more but still have a limited deep discharge life .. Car batteries also do not like to be left in a discharged state very long .. they are happiest (and live longest) if they are kept always in a fully charged state. you can check to make sure your alternater is charging .. usually auto parts places will test that for free ... if the alternater is ok then the battery is probably damaged ... there is another possibility .. if you had someone jump the car to get it started and they hooked the wires up backwards (even for a second) then you could have damaged diodes in the alternator or a damaged voltage regulator (also in the alternator ) ... the test that they do at the auto parts place will catch those problems .. make sure the connections to the battery are clean and tight ...

03 kia won't start

Hi do you have any power at all ie when you turn the ignition on do you get all the dashboard lights light up as normal and can you use the headlights etc if you can are the lights bright or not.

If you have no power at all then the chances are the battery needs replacing or it could even be that the alternater needs replacing and then your battery has run flat.

The best thing to do is either charge your battery up and then try your car again if it starts up as normal but their is a picture of the battery lit up on the dashboard then this indicates that the alternater needs replacing.

If after charging the battery you still have no power at all then this would indicate that the leads coming from the battery are loose or not connected at all.

The main problem with the leads from the battery is with the earth leads one should go to the body work you will need to undo this and check that this is not corroded where it touches the body work you can use sand paper to remove any corrosion
The other earth lead connects to the engine check this is still connected and free from corrosion.

Check also the possitive lead from the battery that goes to the starter motor check this is still connected also as this is the main lead from the battery.

You could try using jump leads from someone elses car onto your battery this way if you still had no power it would then 100% be the leads at fault.

If after connecting the jump leads you thne have power and can then start the car this would then indicate that either the battery is at fault or the alternater the way to test this would be when the car is running at night time park up agains a wall about 10 feet away with the head lights on full beam facing the wall no when you rev the engine up the lights should shine slightly brighter then when you stop revving it should go slightly dim if it does this then the alternater is ok and the battery needs replacing.

If the lights dont go any brighter then this suggests that the alternater needs replacing.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
