Here is a picture, but it is on the front of the engine and is sporing loaded, u can see the arm of the automatic adjuster move/jitter when the engine is running at idle, turn the AC on and off to really see it move to take up the load slack.

first if old belt is still on jeep draw a diagram of how belt is routed first even i get confused motor needs to be cool release tention on belt some have spring loaded tentioners some you have to losen the center bolt on tintioner pully and turn ajusting bolt to losen belt install new belt tention propley

What engine?

It should have an automatic tensioner for the serpentine belt. If the tensioner does not automatically rotate and take up the slack in the belt than it is bad and needs to be replaced.
