First you will need to remove the trim panel around the dash.I believe it is two screws and a few clips.Once the screws are removed you should be able pull the trim panel out and away from the guages. You may have to tilt your steering column down to get this out of your way . Next you will need to remove the vent above the radio towards the driverside. The vent cover should just pop out There will be two screws that will need to be removed on the vent side holding the hazard switch and 1 screw on the other side holding the hazard switch once removed will allow you to pull the switch out through the vent hole and unplug it. Just reversing the process to reinstall. I will try and locate some dash photos as well and post some links for them.

In the picture you can see the vent which needs removed and trim piece which wraps around the hazard switch and around the guages.
Ok let me do some more checking and get back shortly with you.
On the intrigue removing the center vents provides access to the hazard switch. There is a bezel around the switch that will need to be removed being very careful in doing the clips break very easily.Once the vent is removed and the bezel is removed there are two squeeze type retaining clips that you will need to squeeze together through the vent access and the switch will come right out of the dash. Reversing the process to reassemble. Please let me know if you have any other issue with it.Will do my best to help you out.

Hi
(1)Remove the centre air conditioning vent in the dash. The vent is held in the dash by four plastic hooks. Two on top and two on the bottom. The top left hook is almost directly above the left vent adjustment tab on the louver and the bottom left hook is in about the same spot below. The top and bottom right hand hooks are above and below the right louver adjustment tab similar to the left side.
(2) After removing the vent you will be able to see the Hazard/cruise control retainer. This retainer is made from black plastic and has (2) rather large flaps on the left and right side of the hazard switch which is in the top part of the carrier. Simply squeeze BOTH together and the whole thing will fall out behind the dash.
(3) Both the switches have the usual electrical connections. The hazard switch has a white tab on the right side that is depressed to free the connector. The cruise switch has a green lift tab to free the connector. You can now remove the carrier with both switches.
(4) The hazard switch is in a green sleeve which must be removed from the black group carrier. To do that depress the green tabs on the sides of the sleeve to get it out,you may have to break the tabs off to do that. Do not worry about breaking the tabs since the new part includes this sleeve.
(5) Now replace the faulty switch and reassemble. If you have the part in hand BEFORE you start this should be a 30 minute job.
Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.

Thank you for your reply. Before I give your comments a try I want to make sure that they pertain to a 2001 Olds Intrigue. The heading refers to a 2000 Olds Alero.
MY CAR IS NOT AN ALERO, IT IS AN INTRIGUE.
Thanks again, Al
