There is a rubber piece inbetween your drivers side door hinge and the fuse panel with wires inside.. pull the rubber back and there will be broken wires. unhook your battery first then strip the wires and connect them with connectors. this is the wiring for your windows. This is a common problem on jeeps it happened to me. I had the same problem. the reason why the lights stay on is because since the wires are broken your car thinks the door is open. the reason why the windows dont work is because the power wire is probly broke to your driver door, If the driver panel doesnt work then none of the other windows will either.90% of the time this is the problem and is easy to do

Thanks for the latest information concerning my interior lights staying on. However, the lights are now coming on when I open all of the doors except the drivers side. I have set the icon for the lights on the turn signal back to auto position.

The problem that I am having now is with the control panel for the windows, mirror and door locks, when using the remote. All of the doors lock, except the drivers side. Please if you have the answer to solve this problem I really would appreciate the info. Thanks

I had similar issues to what you are experiencing and had no clue what to do. I took it to the dealer and they wanted to sell me a "relay" for the door for $400 after they charged me $150 just to check it out. They didn't really seem to able to explain to me why it needed to be replaced though so I was pretty wearisome to say the least about having to spend $400 and them not being very sure of themselves as to why this part was causing the problem. After searching around online I saw a couple people posting about similar issues they had and that they found a broken wire inside the driver's door. I was quite skeptical at first because lights were coming on so it didn't make sense that it would just be a broken wire. Eventually, I just gave in and did it and it worked perfectly. I haven't had any trouble since. Basically, I unhooked the battery, pulled back the rubber boot around the hinge in the driver side door, and found a broken wire that was completely sheared in half (I have heard that some wires break and the rubber covering stays on so you may want to run your fingers along the length of the wires to test for any breaks that might not be visible), attached the wire that was broken, and everything worked perfectly fine. I believe it was a green wire on mine.

1996 jeep grand cherokee no automatic interior lights

1. If you have the light switch in the wrong mode the lights will not operate when you open the door.

2. If the interior lights do not operate at all (ie you cannot switch them on and off manually)then you need to check the fuse for the interior lights.

3. When set to the correct mode, the interior lights will operate from a door operated switch so if the switch has failed the lights will either stay on or not operate at all when you open and close the door. Eventually these door switches fail with repeated use and need to be replaced. (Consider how many times the small door switch has been operated since 1996).

How do I turn off the interior lights 1998 Jeep Cherokee Limited?

Forget about shutting the lights off...not worth the effort. Besides, the amount of power is not that much, unless you have the doors open all day (why not just open the windows?) If you need to have the doors open all day, get a 2 amp battery charger and attach it while it's open. It will do a lot to keep your electrical system in top charge and you will be doing something good for it!

04 jeep gc interior lights stay on, power windows, locks not work

Common issue with the early 2000 series Jeep is the window/door lock control on driver side goes dead when the thick guage wires in door become brittle and break from continually opening and closing the door. Had both the ground and hot wires break over the years and both are fixed by making a simple jumper connection with a little extra length added.

Fixing is relativly easy if you know how to crimp wire connectors otherwise you my want someone more experience to help.
Open door, pull back rubber sheath and expose wire harness, unclip the plastic retaining clip and pull out wire harness and located which wire has broken (typically the thick black or orange wire) . Prepare both ends for crimp connector and make a jumper with small peice of heavy guage wire and crimp connector of either end then connect each end to either side of broken wire, tuck wires back in, replace retaining clip and rubber sheath.

You can find videos on youtube showing how to fix
