There is on code reader for ATF level. This early had a normal ATF dipstick at the front of the transmission, in park, engine running and hot. Later, around 2002, they removed the dipstick and you have to open bottom plug to sleeve when cold.

2003 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA automatic gasoline engine. shifts hard sometimes.

YOUR TRANSMISSION SOUND LIKE LOW IN TRANSMISSION FLUID. YOU HAVE A FACTORY SEAL TRANSMISSION IF SLIPPING SHIFTING HARD TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE FLUID LEAK. YOUR TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE OIL FILLER TUBE AND DIP STICK.THE VOLKSWAGON DEALERSHIP HAS TO USE EQUIPMENT TO ADD FLUID THROUGH TRANSMISSION FILLER PLUG ON UPPER SIDE TRANSMISSION PAN. IF TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED LET DEALERSHIP CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER AND TRY TO LOCATE LEAK IF FLUID WAS LOW. ALSO MAKE SURE ENGINE FINE TUNED AND TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT IS CORRECT.

How to check transmission fluid level

Most 1995-on VW models don't have a transmission fluid dipstick for checking the transmission fluid level. To fill and check the level of the VW automatic transmission fluid you have to remove a plug on the side or bottom (location depends on model and if you have an automatic vs. manual transmission) of the transmission drain pan. The factory manual refers the expensive VAG 1924 special tool for pumping the VW automatic transmission fluid into the oil pan.

How can i check the level of my transmission fluid on a 1996 volkswagon jetta gls?

Assuming it is an automatic. With engine idling, put transmission thru all gears, put back in park, keep engine running, check dipstick for tranny. If it is a manual then you have to crawl under car and remove upper "fill" plug on gearbox, fluid will be up to that level. NOTE: unless your tranny leaks it should never be low!

How can the transmision fluid be checked on a 2002 jetti tdi other than a dealer. tranny was rebuilt abouy 2000 miles ago.

its not possible.the fluid level is checked by a special tool which only the dealer has,. TO CHECK OR ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID TO JETTA IT HAS TO BE BROUGHT IN TO A VOLKSWAGON DEALER THERE IS NO DIP STICK EVERYTHING IS SEALED SO ONLY THE MECHANIC CAN CHECK IT. the only option to check the fluid is to to crack the seal but this will damage the car. there are many VOLKSWAGON car users facing this problem. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Growling noise in front end of volkswagon jetta

Your transmission and cv axle is running dry. Grease it up, fill it up and try it again. And tighten whatever is loose that is allowing it to leak.

1998 volkswagon jetta manual transmission is hard to shift

Transmission problem...

I'd check the fluid levels... on most if not all 98's there is no tranny fluid stick so you have to either look for the plug on the transmission. Most cars have 2. One on the bottom and one half way up from the bottom of the transmission driver's side. Top it off until the tranny fluid runs out of the hole.

If this doesnt help... you need to get it checked.

Transmission fluid check on a vw jetta tdi

Never ever bring a jetta to a volkwagen dealer. They will bend you over and rape you.

All you have to do is remove the top plug with a hex wrench.
