Question about 2002 Lincoln LS

Open Question

Battery goes dead after setting for a couple of days, changed batterys, same thing. no fuses blown, car starts and runs good. has been to dealers and independent servicing same results.

Why won't it start?


Sounds like you answered your own question, if the battery was dead there is a good chance that is the reason it wouldn't start. Now you need to figure out if your battery is bad or if your alternator is not charging the battery. Have the battery charged and tested. If it tests good, put it back in the car and see if it starts. If it does, check and see if the alternator is charging the battery with the car running......you should have between 12.5 and 14 volts at the battery with the car running. If you do not have this I would change your alternator.

2007 lexus 460ls battery goes dead if not driven for 2 days. what is wrong??


something is turned on and killing the battery. Check the trunk light....(does it really go out when the lid is closed?. Take the bulb (s) out and see if that makes a difference....also if you have one on the hood lid....do the same thing...and pull out the cig lighter too...and also the bulb in the glove box. Something that is NOT on your accessories power is staying on.

Daughter called me ..car wont start. checked battery at Autozone...it is good. someone stopped to help them and bang on startere and it starts up. Bad starter. Starter replaced. Next day daughter...


it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

Hello i have a 2004 expedition , and i have been having issues with my battery draining. about a month and a half ago i went away vacation , came home to start my truck only to relize my battery was dead....


Your solution is a little hard to find too bad they told you to change the alternator. It is a simple fuse you need to change that is blown. on the expetion sometimes there are two one in the fuse box and one under a black cover follow the alternator small wires it should point to the direction of the small i believe 7.5 amp fuse. it was hard to find and i do this for a living. good searching.

The battery keeps going dead on 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. The battery and alternator both check good. What is draining the battery? I recharged the battery cleaned and checked the connections. Still the next...


There is an alternator fuse located on the positive battery clamp or in the fuse block under the hood. if it is part of the positive battery clamp it is a dealer only part and will run $10 to 20 dollars. If it is in the fuse block you should be able to get one at the auto store and modify it to slide in easily. Get a flash light and check all of your fuses carefully. The blown fuse may be hard to spot. The design of the car lets the battery go dead with out even turning on the charge light on the dash to let you know you are not charging the battery.

How long does it take for the battery to go dead, overnight, couple of days?

Have you checked the electrical system for draws? You'll need a multi meter capable of reading amperage. Disconnect the positive cable and hook the meter up in series with the battery and the positive cable. You want to make sure the key is out of the ignition, all the doors are closed and all the dome lights etc are turned off before doing this. If you get a reading of more than .050 amps than you have a draw. You may have to wait for 20 minutes or so for everything to power down to get an accurate reading.

If you have a draw of more than .050 amps than you can start pulling fuses one at a time until the draw goes away and then focus on the things that fuse supplies power to. Make sure you put the fuse back that you pulled out before pulling the next.

If there are no draws and the battery goes dead overnight disconnect the battery, let it sit overnight and then see if the battery will start the vehicle in the morning. Every once in a while you will run into a battery that has an internal draw and will run itself down all by itself.

Instrument panel went dead


Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task).This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

Battery on a porsche boxster is dead will not start up


If the battery is VERY dead it may take quite a while jump start the car. You may have to run the car with the good battery for five or ten minutes to get enough charge in the old battery to start the car. Other wise a very dead battery will just "soak up" the electricity from the good battery. If your battery was old to begin with it may be unserviceable. I would take the battery out and take it to an auto parts store that can charge and test it. They will usually do this for free.

Regulator in alternator obviously faulty, have it bench tested & fixed or replace alternator, and cure your problem.

Engine fan keeps running


It's possible that the fan control relay is intermittently sticking causing the fans to run continuously. This can overheat and subsequently blow the fuse. Try replacing the relay and see if anything changes.
