I have a 1999 Range Rover with the Gems 4.0 engine. When I start the engine it goes to around 1800 rpm at idle and will not come of that rpm. What could be the possible causes

There are 2 most probable reasons for a high idle : Vacuum leak and IAC motor (Idle Air Control) is stuck in the wide open position. The vacuum leak could be a broken/cracked or hose that came loose or intake gasket could be leaking. Usually the IAC stuck open will have a code stored, but the best way to test it is with a good scan tool. A cheap (less than $500) scanner will not be able to test it, but any decent shop should have a scan tool capable of controlling the IAC to test it.

unfortunately there is nothing that you can do, except take it to a land rover dealer to check with their tester, aftermarket code readers are not capable of reading land rovers. Hope this helps

1995 Land rover discovery leaking power steering fluid.

the steering boxes on those were leaky messes, seal kits, rebuilt and new units are availible. expect a couple hours for a good mechanic to remove and replace, resealing takes a longer once the unit is out. be sure to also check the steering hoses and pipes for leaks, pretty much everything is located in the front left of the engine compartment. check out and for parts and prices. stay away from land rover dealers if you can to save on cost.

Range rover 4.6 v8 loosing oil but no oil leak?

Hi if you park your car on a level surface do you have any patches on the floor?
If you do then it would point to Front or rear main seal. However it is a very common fault on 4.0l and especialy 4.6l to crack piston rings. The sumptoms are high oil useage and mostly no trace of oil leak and normaly no signs of smoking either.
Thanks Rob.

Water leaking from reservoir intermittently.

Is there any white smoke? These were bad for head gaskets but they also had problems with the inlet manifold gasket. the inlet manifold has a water jacket and gasket failure bleeds coolant into the cylinders.
