Question about 2005 Subaru Forester

Open Question

2005 Subaru Forester, manual trans. On again, off again problem with starting. Turn key, electrical systems & lights come on, but there is no "ignition" usually nothing - though wife reported one time a brief weak turning over sound. The problem can disappear without doing anything but it can persist for a long time even with repeated attampts to start. The last time we had to have car towed to Subaru dealership and then it started. They said it was probably using an old key but it ca occur with anu of the keys - even the ones we almost never use. Jump starting the battery does not start the car. Happened in cool to cold weather and right now in warm/hot. Any ideas? Thanks Chris

2002 Subaru Forester - door ajar light is always on even with all doors closed & ignition key off

This is bound to be a courtesy light switch on one of your doors. Check all the switches to see if they have been damaged. You may have to remove the rubber protection boot to do this. Once you find and replace the faulty switch, all should be well again.

''Hold At'' Subaru forester problem

I don't think you have a problem at all. when you turn the key on, the hold at light appears, this lets you know the system is engaged and ready to go,and will not turn back on unless the system is engaged during slippery conditions. Try disengaging the button, then turn the ignition on, I'll bet the light doesn't appear! Thats because its not supposed to when the system is disengaged. Dale

What does the " Power " light on the dash indicate when it is lit on my Forester 2.0 Turbo S auto ? The manual doesn`t mention it !

Do you have a switch (usually a push button) on or near your shifter labeled "Power" or "Performance"? Some cars have a button that can turn on a different shift program for the transmission, usually holding gears longer and firming up shifts. Once you locate this button press it again and the light should turn off.

Obd light on. speedo not working

There is a chance that the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in the trans is bad. The ECM (computer) needs to know how fast the vehicle is moving, and what load it's under in order to adjust engine RPM and consequently emission controls, trans shift points, etc. Hope this helps.

Security light

Your battery is probably low. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Put the key in the ignition. Turn it to the on position. Then reconnect the negative battery cable. That should clear the security lights.
