  • Get under the car and locate the oil pan near the front of the vehicle . Put a drain pan within easy reach. Use a socket wrench to remove the nut that holds the oil pan to the car. Hold the pan with your other hand so it won't drop when the nut is removed.
  • Slide the drain pan quickly under the oil pan to catch the old oil. Drain as much as possible.
  • Remove the old oil pan gasket very carefully with a thin paint scraper, and then wipe the surface with engine cleaner or solvent.
  • Rub a bit of oil on the sealing surface to promote adhesion, and attach the new gasket securely. Reattach the oil pan to the car with the bolt.
  • Pour fresh oil into the crankcase. Honda Accord cars will require between 5 and 6 qt., so fill it until the crankcase looks full, and then check it with the dipstick to be sure, adding more if necessary. Back the car off the ramps.
  • Put the old oil in a used milk carton and attach the lid securely. Take the oil to a hazardous materials disposal facility, or to a garage.

Which motor oil to use for the engine? I have been using 10w40. can I switch it/top off with 10w30? My car is a 1991 honda accord ex with 190,000 miles on it. also, its leaking oil through the pan...

10w-40 is going to be slight better for your 190,000 mile engine especially in this warm weather-and it would have a slightly better tendency at resisting leakage, again at higher temps.

My 1991 Honda Accord is leaking oil from the driver side but not from the oil pan.

The oil pressure switch often leaks on these models. You will need a lift to verify this. It is not expensive to replace, usually under $50.

You are referring to the drain bolt on the oil pan? You can use a crescent wrench. I have a 92 and I can never remember what size the drain bolt is, so I always go under with my trusty adjustable crescent wrench. Let me know if u need more info.

    Honda accord 1991 model

Sounds like it's burning oil-how many miles on the engine? If it is burning oil, the plugs will not last too long before they have to be replaced or cleaned, due to deposits left on them by the oil. How often do you have to add oil (how many miles do you drive before you have to add a quart?) It probably needs an engine overhaul. Countrycurt0
