Question about Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

My Jeep is a 1992 Limited Edition Cherokee and the power seats do not work. I have isolated the problem and need to run a new ground wire but I do not have drawings and do not know exactly where or how to run a new connection. What are your recommendations?

Your best ground is the battery negative post. second best is the engine block. Run the new wire to either and you will have a good ground. You have located the ground wire in the seat harness?

When I go to crank 2000 jeep Cherokee limited the fuel gage works sometimes and it will only run for about three seconds what's wrong?

The computer grounds the fuel pump relay for 3 seconds to boost fuel pressure on start-up. If the computer does not see oil pressure or RPM it will not continue to ground the relay.
You would need to bypass the relay and see if the pump continues to run, then check the relay and the ground signal from the computer.
The gas gauge problem may be connected or something different.
The connector at the gas tank may be faulty which would affect both the power for the pump and the fuel gauge sending unit.

1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited starts, runs a few minutes then dies

Running for five minutes sounds like something other than a security system problem (usually shuts off much earlier) but if that has been compromised it needs to be put back together or the trigger wire from the drivers door lock needs to be grounded.
I'd look to the throttle position sensor, map sensor, crank position sensor or the ballast resistor on the drivers fender. You need to do tests on those items as all influence the fuel management system after warm up. Test when it is cold and after it shuts off so you don't mistake a part malfunction only when hot. Hands on testing is the ONLY way to determine accurately exactly what is happening there. Anything else is an educated guess!!!

I've a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, both of the front power seats have stopped working, I suspect a short. I have a strong smell of burnt wire or varnish in the vehicle. Is there a master controller...

First of all: Ground your car till you fixed this problem! A short can cause a fire and, believe me you can't stop it!
Next: check the complete wiring for the seat first, then remove the seat and check wiring and switch inside. After that, check the motor(s). If there is no problem with the seat and the wiring in and to the seat, remove the dash board (you need to remove it complete! This will take a day, if you don't do this every day). Use a wiring diagram and check the wiring for a short or broken wire. The electrical system is not as simple as it was in the later 80' . Cars with ODB systems uses wires not only for a special system, like power seat. The same wire can be uses to activate other systems so it is not easy to find the electrical cramlin right at the point you think it have to be! Searching for a short can cost you days or, in some cases weeks.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. My drivers side front power seat does Not stay adjusted. Every time I turn the ignition on the seat moves backward and the back lays down.

The limited edition brings memory setting for mirrors and seats, it recognizes which key are you putting in the ignition and puts the saved setting accordingly to that driver's key. That is the reason your seat keeps moving. You need to reprogram the seat position for that key. Good luck

I have a 2000 gran cherokee limited recently my check engine ligth came on .the computer said it could be a defective relay or poor ground conditions but idont know wich relay is defective. i need some...

To begin with, did you check the ground system? Make sure that the ground wire that attaches to the block is clean and making good contact (remove it and clean with sandpaper) at both the battery and block itself. Also check any secondary grounds such as the small ones that attach to the fenders and firewall. (generally, I run a 12ga wire from battery (-) terminal and attach it to firewall and both fenders to insure no ground problems.) Make sure that power distribution center is properly grounded as well. This may be through a ground bar attached to fender or through wiring to relays.
As for relays, you need to isolate a particular relay to determine if good/bad. Likely you may not have to go this far if problem does not happen again once everything is grounded properly.

1999 Jeep Gr. Cherokee Limited, front seats not heating up.

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee Special Edition and the same thing happened to my heated seats. The light would come on but the seat would not heat up. In my case the Heating element burned out and needed to be replaced. I got it fixed at the dealer and they said this was common and earlier models had a recall on it. You should contact your dealer and see if your year had a recall for it. It was not too bad, about 300 bucks. For an hour work.

No power ay outlet

Maybe unpluged power/ground on plug. take off trim to access back of pwr outlet. It should have grnd wire and hot wire. Test hot wire with a different ground. If it tests ok, relocate ground/run a new one. If it has no power, recheck fuse or run a new hot wire from fuse panel.
