Question about 1985 Toyota Passenger

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 1993 Toyota Townace 2L Diesel Auto which has been standing for some time. I would like to get it running again, but there seems to be a fuse outage; - I have a fully charged battery but there is no sign of life, other than: hazard lights work fine, but no indicators, and headlights work fine; - otherwise, all else dead as a dodo! Have found bank of small fuses down by heater unit, but can't see what would have caused an almost, but not quite, complete outage?!! The battery that was in it had gone completely dead. Hope somebody can help? Cheers, Peter.

Hi, thanks for your input, I have checked all the small fuses, but they're all pretty clean, and have opened out the ignition but that seems ok; - there is a single clicking sound from the starter when I turn the key, so don't think that's the issue. I am still suspecting some kind of main fuse, as was suggested to me by an ex-mechanic I was talking to, as the clock is not working, indicators aren't working, and no lights on the dash come on when the key is turned.
Haven't tried directly jumping the starter, nor checked the heat plugs (not quite sure how to do that), but at this point, feel that the not working of much, but not all, of the electrics is more the issue; is there some main fuse that could be the culprit, and if so, where is it and what does it look like?

Yes, this is the fuse box, it apparently is missing its clip-on cover. Check every fuse for corrosion on the contacts in the box and clean them if necessary. Then check the key switch, it might have gone bad . Then make sure that the heat plugs receive power when you turn the key (otherwise you won't be able to start the engine). Finally check the started by  jumping it directly.

There is no main fuse, if all are dead then either the main power cable coming from the battery is interrupted (check if the power reaches the key switch) ir the switch is dead - check if power is leaving it.

Hi Ace 2L diesel van. What is the valve clearance warm and cold?

Cold: Intake 0.30mm, Exhaust 0.50mm.
Hot: Intake 0.20mm, Exhaust 0.040mm.

H4 switch, engine

H4 stands for "4 wheel drive; High Range".

Regarding changing to a diesel, you are in for a lot of problems, I am sorry to say. There is a multitude of things that have to be changed, IF the diesel could bolt to your transmission, which it will not. This would be a really,REALLY expensive undertaking.
Personally, I would not attempt it.
Sorry again.
