Question about Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe that will start but, will not drive or reverse. It makes a loud clunking noise that seems to be coming from under the vehicle toward the middle (or under where the second row of seats are.) Right before this incident, one of the fan belts to the air conditioner broke, and right before that there were problems with the car starting up. It would take a few minutes before it would start up. I put mystery marvel in and I haven't had a problem with it starting anymre. I'm not sure if the problems are connected in any way but, I want to get it all repaired now so I just need to know why it will not move after starting it.

This can be 2 or 3 problems that i can not tell you the exact answer without more information. It could be your drive shaft itself or a U-joint that is broken. It could be the gear box that converts transmission power to the front and rear wheels and/or it could be the transmission/flex plate itself which is BAD but knowing and working on chevy's the transmissions are usually not problematic

You may need to get a new transmission. The other option that you could have is the drivetrain on the back the SUV. One of those may be broken.

2001 Tahoe 4wd isn't engaging in 1,2,or 3rd or drive. It only goes forward when the gear shift is on reverse and when it starts to move it makes a loud clunk noise and grinding.

Not sounding to good. Sounds like you wiped out the planetary gears. Depending on the damage, your looking at $2000 rebuild.

Loud humming noise from under my Tahoe 2 WD

Is it closer to the back of the vehicle or the front?Possibly the fuel pump. Try opening the gas tank and stick your ear close to the intake of the tank while someone turns the key.
