Question about Ford Five Hundred

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred Limited AWD. I have a problem starting the car. It may crank for 5 seconds before half-starting...it will idle rough at ~500 RPMs for a couple of seconds and may stall, or it may idle normally. It depends on it's mood. I had it in for service, and they said the Electronic Throttle Body was malfunctioning. The throttle body was replaced with the new part, and the PCM was flashed. $500 later, it's no better. The check engine light has never come on. I'm stumped on this one, as I think the Ford garage is as well.

I've been running 87 octane in it. It's symptoms are more indicative of something electronic. For example, if I disconnect the battery, the start issue will go away for about I week and gradually the starting gets worse again over time. I've gone through the idle learn procedure after disconnecting the battery as well.

Burn the lowest octane that you can, based on the specs. Ford has found when people run premium fuel, starting was delayed.

It is actually the lowest octane that has the most explosive power. Higher octane burns SLOWER.

What is the name of the coil spring to purchse for Coil Spring for a Ford five hundred AWD

I would be taking this to a suspension specialist for good after market springs of the right length. The struts used may be too short in travel and that is what is holding the rear down or it may be just weak springs

According to the book, the relay is incorporated into the smart junction box. There may not be an actual relay you can replace.

I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred and the ''wrench'' warning light came on. It is a AWD. What does it mean and what could the probable cause be?

It simply means that its time for routing service and maintenance on your car. This will normally be reset when you take it in for an oil change. 1. Ford has issued a Special Service Message (SSM), stating that the owner's manual procedure is incorrect, and giving a revised procedure. The following is the text of the SSM:

18562 2005 FREESTYLE/FIVE HUNDRED/MONTEGO - OIL LIFE RESET PROCEDURE
THE 2005 FREESTYLE, FIVE HUNDRED, AND MONTEGO VEHICLE OWNER'S GUIDE OIL LIFE RESET PROCEDURE IS INCORRECT. TO RESET OIL LIFE ON VEHICLES WITHOUT MESSAGE CENTER, USE THE TRIP/RESET BUTTON TO TOGGLE THE ODOMETER DISPLAY TO 'OIL LIFE XX%'. THEN PRESS AND HOLD THE BUTTON FOR 10 SECONDS TO RESET TO 100%. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL BEEP WHEN THE OIL LIFE IS RESET.
FOR VEHICLES WITH A MESSAGE CENTER, PRESS 'SETUP' TO DISPLAY 'PRESS RESET FOR SYS CHECK'. PRESS AND RELEASE 'RESET' TO START SYSTEM CHECK. WHILE 'OIL LIFE XX%' IS DISPLAYED, PRESS AND HOLD 'RESET' UNTIL 'IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET' IS DISPLAYED, THEN RELEASE. PRESS AND HOLD 'RESET' AGAIN UNTIL 'OIL LIFE SET TO 100%' IS DISPLAYED. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL BEEP WHEN THE OIL LIFE IS RESET.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 04/20/2005

You need to have the transmission serviced. The wrench indicates that the fluid in your transmission is out of spec or you have an out of spec pressure condition.
