Question about Volkswagen Jetta

I am doin a timing belt on a 2001 jetta, 1.8t 20 valve, i pulled the timing cover and all off and i have an o ring that im not sure where it goes?

Sometimes the o ring goes under the bolt retaining the timing cover...

2001 a4 FSI compression problem?


When the timing chain gets old, it will slip a tooth or two rather than break. When it slips, theengine msy or may not start, but the compression will be reduced. You usually have to remove the timing cover to verify the cain or belt has slipped, unless you have overhead cam. It that case, you only have to remove the valve cover to confirm valve timing.

How do i change a waterpump on a 2001Volkswagen cabrio?


Your Cabrio has one of several 2.0L Volkswagen engines - determine your engine type from the
8th digit of your VIN, which will be either an "A", or "C",both are 2.0L engines.

Volkswagen 2.0L engines offered in 2001:
(a) 2.0L (Aba) Engine
(b) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdc/Bev/Bgd) Engine
(c) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdf) Engine

For completeness, I've included the water pump maintenance manual entries for all (3) 2.0L VW
engines offered in 2001. Note that the instructions below include (3) illustrations, which are
reproduced faithfully from the manual, but the last (2) illustrations are identical, since the last two
engines in the list above are virtually identical.

Volkswagen 2001 engines - water pump replacement

2.0L (Aba) Engine

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

Remove or disconnect:

1. Coolant

2. Thermostat housing from under the water pump housing.


Loosen but don't remove the bolts holding the pulley to the water pump.

Remove or disconnect:

Timing belt cover.

Alternator and/or steering pump as required to remove the water pump drive belt.

Water pump pulley. On some vehicles, the crankshaft pulley must also be removed by removing the bolts holding the pulley to the timing belt sprocket.

Water pump from its housing.


To install:


Be sure to clean the housing before installing the new gasket. Install the pump into the housing. Pump-to-housing bolts: 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

Install the water pump drive pulley. Bolts: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Install crankshaft drive pulley. Bolts: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

Adjust drive belt tension and install the thermostat and housing. Bolts: 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

Negative battery cable.

Coolant.

Accessory drive belt and tensioner.

Upper and center timing belt covers.



3. Position the engine so that the No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
WARNING
Cover the timing belt to protect it from being contaminated with coolant.


4. Loosen the timing belt tension and slide the belt off the water pump sprocket.

5. Remove or disconnect:

Timing belt guard (2) mounting bolt (1), if equipped.

Water pump mounting bolts (5), then the water pump (4).

O-ring (3) and clean the seating area.


To install:

1. Install or connect:

O-ring, moistened with coolant.

Water pump so that the plug in the housing faces downward. Mounting bolts: 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

Timing belt guard, if equipped. Mounting bolt: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

Timing belt.

Upper and center timing belt covers.

Accessory drive belt tensioner. Mounting bolt: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

Accessory drive belt.

Coolant.

Negative battery cable.



2. Check and clear any DTCs, then match the ECM to the TCM.


2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdf) Engine


1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

2. Remove or disconnect:
1. Negative battery cable.

2. Coolant.

3. Accessory drive belt and tensioner.

4. Upper and center timing belt covers.

Hello emissionwiz it looks that you know about this vehicle. I just purchased a Daewoo Lanos 2001. They advised me that the timing belt broke and that the tension pulley broke. I went to a u pull yard and...


if the timming belt broke when the engine was running most of the time the valves get bent and leak (head off repair) you could check this once you have replaced the belt before you start remove rocker cover and check for gaps between cam lobe and valve bucket when lobe is not pushing bucket down if there is a gap valve is bent.
these vehicles came out with a single cam or twin cam engine also so which one have you got?
valves bent on both engines when belt broke while running

on single cam engines you lock the tensioner with pin and loosen water pump and turn to obtain correct belt tension then release lock pin in tensioner and check that marks on tensioner align up if not turn water pump to get correct. some times this then causes the seal on the water pump to fail if its been there for some time because they corrode in block and its only a "O" ring so you might need a waterpump and "O" ring and coolant use grease on waterpump and "O" ring to make sealing and turning if needed eazier.

Jetta 2001- timing belt broked and now im traing to get the engin on time


There is a very good chance you bent some valves when the belt broke. If it's a 1.8 turbo then definitely, 2.0 you have a small chance that it is ok. The marks are easy to see, one notch on the cam and one on the crank, the crank lines up to the line on the plastic cover that covers the t belt, the cam lines up to the plastic backing piece that is bolted down with the valve cover. No compression 2003 jetta 1.8L Turbo Timing belt is on and tight, timing chain is on and tight, pistons are going up and down, valves appear to be opening and closing. no funny engine noises, engine turns...


Either the camshaft are seriously out of time or the piston rings/pistons are worn out.
Check TDC of Piston No1 on the power stroke coincides with both inlet and exhaust valves being closed.

Have 2001 jetta 1.8 turbo wolfburg addition, make a wierd noise front of motor under valve cover around timing belt


i would pull the cover off there are 2 clips on either side up top look at the belt see if there is any damage to belt if none start it it could be the waterpump going bad as it is inside the cover as well but by removing the cover you should be able to hear it better

2002 Jetta TDI, has 180,000 miles. Engine sputtered and cut off.


standing at the front of the car pull the cover off the left side of the motor and check the belt. No tools are required the check the belt. Cover pulls up and off. It's to the left end of the valve cover.

Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles


is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

2001 jetta wont rev past 3,00 rpm


sounds like something was set up wrong.timing belt ...cam/crank sensor/ or work on mechanicals not clean..valves/piston damage...or....alot of junk went through motor when this occurred and your catalytic converter is clogged
