It could be either the water pump or the thermostat. if i was u i would try to replace the thermostat first, its a alot cheaper than a water pump. i would also try checking to see if the fans come on and off like they should. hope this helps you :)

2004 volkswagon beetle check engine light

1st thing is remove the cap of the coolant resivoir,
2nd, check the fluid level.
3rd remove the return hose to the resivoir
4th start the vehicle and see if there is fluid rushing out of it
if not you have a flow proble, either the water pump or the T-stat
5th Replaced the coolant temperature sensor located on the
thermostat housing (depending on what motor you have)
if there is flow at the return tube then just change the temp sensor
if there is no flow, you will wanna replace the t-stat and the water pump
I hope this helps

Water not pumping through engine; water pump is working.

Could be the thermostat is faulty and not opening - allowing the coolant to pass..
It is inside the housing where the top hose connects to the motor..
And the good news is - it is not much money ;o)
Good luck..

How do i remove and refit water pump on my ford escort 1.8 16v, t

You will need to remove the raidator and the water pump is located directly behind the fan. Remove it and clean all the gasket off the engine. Refit the new one with the gasket and refit the radator and fan. Remember to refill the radator the coolant.

1996 grand prix se running hot

it sounds like it may have air in the system there should be a bleeder valve for the coolant also if it ran hot you may have a possible head gaskt problem i would try bleeding the air out of the coolant system and if problem is still there you can buy a kit to check the head gasket it hooks to the coolant system and you pour a liquid in it and if it turns from blue to yellow it has a head gasket problem
