Question about 1993 Mazda 626

Open Question

I have a 93 mazda 626 2.5 fuel injected dual over head cam 6 cylinder. On my gear shifter there is a hold button. When I turn my car on the check engine light comes on and the hold button starts blinking on my dash board. While these lights are displayed the car will not shift out of first gear unless I manually shift it into second myself. These lights stay displayed between five minutes and thirty minutes and when they go away the car drives perfectly fine as if nothing was wrong.

SOURCE: shifting hard..check engine light always on

hi there, seems like your clutch is going out, and the fuel pump might be going as well, take it to a smog and repair shop or a shop that has an OBD2 reader, they should tell you, should be a charge for it since the thing is hand held and plugs in near your legs, or on the right or left side of the areas, sometimes behind the ashtray, if you look you'll see a odd shaped plug or a cover that says obd...thats how you read your check ingine light codes, usually portains to the smog or emmissions of the car, i have one so they should be able to help you out.....hope this helps you out....shia

SOURCE: Want to remove the ignition lock cylinder since a broken key is stuck inside.

get a phillipshead un do about 4 screws from underneath plastic cover which hides steering colume. remove cover you will see white plug on the left hand side of ignition barrel disconect.then right hand side there will be acable disconect.now get a small chissel and anti clockwise tap bolts which have no heads on them that are on top of steering colume when they are alittle bit lose use plyers its easier pull bolts out clamp will then come of and then you can pull whole ignition of. now there is 2 brass pins which hold barrel in ignition up near the key end remove and barrel will come out but it might be easier to take whole ignition to locksmith and get them to do it and get new key for around 30 bucks i did a mates about couple months ago seeya orangepeel.

What is the hold button for?

When working properly the hold button when pressed will hold the transmission from shifting gears until each gear is at the very top of the range. It is similiar to sport mode in other vehicles. It will allow for faster speeds during acceleration, but uses more fuel.

Mazda 626 2.2L replaced head gasket, have compression of 120psi across all cyl, have fuel, spark turns over but no start checked timmming, marks #1 cyl up crank at TDC aligned on mark?

I can think of two possible causes:
1 - Assuming you are getting spark at the plugs, the distributor may be reinstalled 180 deg off.
2 - Unlikely but - Assuming you are getting fuel into the cylinders, the fuel injector connectors were reinstalled improperly and are firing out of sequence. If you are not getting fuel into the cylinders, it's something else.

Check the Fuel injection system (injectors) and the intake manifold. It might also be wise to check the alternator as well as the starter coil and also the electronic distributor

Mazda 626

had the same problem in my car. the transmission may over heated and its blown the overdrive. it could also be the trans cooler playing up or finally the cam belt may have skipped a few notches. DONT run the engine get a repair man to come to you. if its the cam belt running the engine can damage the cylinder heads and then it becomes real expensive, they're all relitivly easy to fix.
