Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10

Open Question

2001 s10 2.2l 5 speed. After driving 45 miles or so my truck will stall / bog down when leaving from a stop. It will not go over 20 mh. It jerks and bogs when pressing the gas pedal. Let up on the pedal and it will idle fine. \r\nI replaced the fuel filter and it still does the same thing. The truck runs fine for the first 45 miles then after that it does the above. I stop and set for about 5 or 10 min. and it will start right up and go just fine again. Sometimes it starts all over again and sometimes it runs fine for the rest of the trip. What is going on? I have noticed the alternator is not charging very well. The gauge reads below the half way mark and drops if at idle or with the ac on. BTW: it only has 66000 miles. Completely stock with only the tires and oil being changed.

SOURCE: At Idle Runs Fine, 50% throttle runs like ****

I WOULD HAVE THE FUEL PRESSURE TESTED. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE PUMP CANT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND.

ALSO CHECK THE INSIDE OF THE THROTTLE BODY FOR A CARBON PLUG WHERE THE EGR PORT ENTERS THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.

After driving at 35 to 45 per mile for 15 to 20 miles the car hesitating, jerking and stop it will start again by permiting it to sit a few minutes

Sounds like a gas tank full of crud. Check gas filter to see if it is dirty. Also water in gas will clog gas tank filter then when car stops water will disburse and collect when engine starts again.

Here are the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and/or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving

I recently purchased a 2001 Mazda Millenia. It was a little jerky test driving it, but it was winter with snow and ice. Now it's spring, and it's still jerky. I took it out on the hwy doing about 70 mph...

Do you notice does the problem seem to worsen in rain or humid weather? Try checking the MAF sensor it may just need to cleaned it can cause problems like this. Be sure to use MAF cleaner nothing else. The sensor may also be bad but try cleaning it first, its cheap and only takes about ten minutes.

"car jerks/jumps"

These is because of the improper combustion, so you better check the air filter and the exhaust along with that you replace all the spark plugs

Why does my 91 VW Jetta stall out and lose power while driving?

I had a similar problem and the mechanic diagnosed it as a problem with the ignition coil. So you might want to get that checked.

2002 Honda Accord - slow engine start and jerking

Most likely a dirty idle speed control system follow the guidelines below to clean it.

Throttle Body Cleaning on vehicles without electronic throttle control (most 2003 and down)

You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.
